View Full Version : Fireman's Ball
Sarah and I went to play on Tuesday, but the feild had been rented by the county fire dept. They enjoyed themselves so much, they may do this every year, calling it; "The Fireman's Ball" So, I reffed, and Sarah took some great shots of everyone. Here's some of the better ones:
Gathering to play
This guy wore a cupped jock strap outside his turn-out uniform. He's a Paramedic, and a totally fearless player.....and an overshooter! He shot everyone 4-7 times! (I think he'll be washing the trucks for a while:) )
I'm fixing up a little storm damage
Starting the first game of the day
Female firefighter, gave as good as she got...'cept this time!
He learned to duck by the end of the day!
"OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!"
Yes, he's still being shot as this pic was taken!
A Bonebreak Angel after a dive into a muddy bunker
The last game was "Run out of paint, or run out of Pain".
Hits didn't count, only your willingness to stay in the game after many, many hits. 20+ was not uncommon! These two tackled each other well outside the field, laughing the whole time. The guy on the right is the Fire Chief.

is it me or was someone crawling inside that center bunker?
Center bunker is an old stock tank. Works great because you have to really reach to get the flag...it's also good for a hiding place, but hell to get out of!
...And of course, representing AO:)
All in all, a great day. Not one complaint, no one whine, everyone was laughing at the end, with promises to do it again and again. This was easy to set up, try to do it at your local field.
The field owner is a player, that builds it with leftovers from his construction job. Never a charge to play there, and we invite anyone to come out.
This is Dave, the field owner, in his ref shirt.
The field is in a small draw, with fairly steep sides to it. The advantage, is that we can sit above the game, with minimal risk of being hit.
For a bunch of newbies, they all played at a level that was above their experience, good form!

One thing the owner of the field may want to work on.. how bout some barrel socks on those markers when the goggles are off?
I know the sign says "PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK" but losing an eye is not a risk I would be willing to take because someone has an "oops"

Other than that, looks like they had fun.

asome Army! Glad you guys had fun...looks like a GREAT friendly day!
We reminded all the time to put plugs in and safety's on. Remember, these guys aren't regular players, so don't have the "Socks on-masks on" mentality like we do. Trust me, they kept their plugs in way more than not.

ahh!! the owner of that angel should be slapped!!!
This is my favorite. The guy in the jockstrap is bunkering his own team member, if I remember correctly.
and by the way-- in the picture with the guy on the ground, he's actually just writing in pain in the staging area, not still being shot at. I wouldn't have been that close w/o my goggles on.
