View Full Version : Anyone other than Festus working on a custom slug?

Tom gave us this beautiful canvas to do milling magic on to and it seems like no one else seems to care. Festus put the time and effort into but I don't really seen anyone else putting more than 5 minutes into help design a slug body. For the people out there who can't afford an X-MAg...here is the project that you should be jumping all over but to me it seems like the community at large could care less about it. We had all these cool neat-o ideas when the X-Mag milling was on the drawing board, so what happened to all those cool ideas?

We have some and are waiting on a new motor for our milling machine. Should be starting next week.

Tom annouced he was working on a ULE one that I assume will be sold that way. No details though.

It seems, to me anyway, that there hasn't been a lot of milled sluggos because not many people have access to a milling machine; let alone know how to use one. I for one would have bought a sluggo a long time ago, but as I said, I don't have access to a milling machine nor do I know how to use one. But oh well, I'm sure we'll seem some popping up every now and again. :D

I can't wait for some milled and annodized sluggos to be available, don't have the resources to take care of that myself. Post em when you get em.

I wouldn't be worried about the bit. I'd be worry about the 2 weeks you're gonna be unavailable to do anything else if you really intend to do a good milling job with a dremel :)

Again… we see a thread complaining about the slow process of personal sluggo milling.

Come on folks… very few people own milling machines (as has been stated). Some of us however, have been thinking hard about purchasing one. (Milling Machine) :D But honestly, the average person just can’t go out and buy a milling machine just so they can mill a sluggo body. That would be darn silly. They aren’t Dremels you know. ;)

So, again, DB, it is not about how much people “care”, but about their abilities. And as for how much time folks put into helping design a slug body…. Since when did you know how long it takes folks to do that? I know that what takes some only minutes can take others hours. ;)

My point is, that it is one thing asking if anyone else is going to do something in the way of actual milling production, and insulting everyone else who has not… because of real world limitations. Come on…. Lighten up just a bit please. :)

A ULE slug body? Great idea! And for all of you who are getting your slugs milled: thanks for sacrificing your time and money, we all know how many of us want to see the end results! I'm really interested in seeing what's to happen of the "official AO slug body"... nuclearzombie seems to have posted quite a few concept pics.

I never actually asked for people to produce other bodies..but at least with X-Mag design people were uploading drawings, CAD files and the like...it just seems like a lot less people are putting effort into this..and if some comes up with a real cool drawing maybe some other people will see the ideas and it will spark them to come up with their own designs. I'm not asking people to actually produce them, but to only expand the listing of ideas regarding a design.

I'm very interested in a milled slug body. I'm just waiting for the nicest one I see at the right price. Tunaman hit us up with idea graphics if you can. I've heard news of a PBX slug body. Any body know any thing?

I'm just thinking... and if the Sluggo's stick around for a while, that would be a great project for the CAD/CAM class my school is starting next year. Program it into the machine and let it mill, I think I might just have to try that out :D

I think AGD discouraged a lot of design work since he said the milling had to be cheap to accomplish. I have not seen others calling for design ideas that they plan to implement. I think we would see a lot more design work if someone who could actually implement the designs called for them. I guess it seams pointless to work for hours on a design, just to have a few folks share their opinions, and nothing else.

I agree… and that is why I personally stopped even trying. I can make pretty designs, and cool things, but for what? Until I get my own CnC setup, or there is someone willing to try to work up any of my designs, I will keep them to myself. And that is not being “stingy” or “greedy” or that I don’t want to share…. But if no one can USE them, or are willing to…. Why bother?

I already posted in Tom’s original Sluggo thread the design I would like to see milled…. And others showed interest in it as well. Hopefully some day it will come to life.

Absolutely right on Sam

I just happened to be lucky enough to be in the right
place at the right time, when a company I worked for
was selling an older machine.
So now I have a Bridgeport in my basement, and since
my job now has a 4 day work week I've actually got time
to use it.

Hey! You know what? This is the second thread of yours I have read in the past 30 seconds that you either called someone a “tard” or said that something was dumb (icons) or retarded (icons)…. Do you have an inferiority complex? Or should I ask if you gotta one? ;)

Lighten up just a bit………….. :D

I like quotes too… such as “Better to be though a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.” And “The world does not suffer fools.”

There is also more ways to say what we think without actually insulting someone or something. And using ways other than indults shows maturity and intelligence. And I think boldness without temperament and wisdom can be counterproductive and produce the opposite effect that you may be wanting to create.

But what do I know? ;)

Personaly, my first thought on seeing the guinness one was: That's perfect for me! How can I get a copy of that.

Of course the fact that I really do have no idea on how to get a copy of that let alone post it anywhere is kind of funny in itself.
