Yeah Tom that's My E-Mag rail! any chance you could

This was taken during the final cut on the first side,
the camera was fast enough to stop an end mill running
at 3200 rpm. Look for the chip's in the air.
WOW!! I've never taken a pic while I was cutting before.
BTW I need to thank my brother Randy for the camera,

That looks very very good! I like it when u had the body just squared off. I think AGD should make either a square body like the one in the pic at the top or a body like ur finished one. they both look really nice

I'll post Pic's of the embellishing operation tommorrow.
O.K. You folk's can post now.

BTW wallace9111 what do you think so far.
It's virtually like mine but I can see the
differences. I'll take the ball end to it
tommorow or sunday, and see how I can embellish
it. You are getting a true One Off Body.

The reason Tom does'nt do that is $$$$
It would greatly increase the cost of the sluggo.
He's had a hard enough time selling them as is,
it would be even harder for him if he had to increase
the price because of extra machine time.
H**l he already had to reduce the price of what he has,
in order to sell any of them.

First off your bodies are looking great! Keep up the great work.

I do have some question for you though. I know this may sound silly but I have a drill press (nothing fancy) and I was wondering if I could do some small parts with it? The head at its fastest spins at 3100 RPMs. My main question is what type of cutting heads are you using? I am sure they are expensive but for what I want to do I would only need a few small ones. Is there a place I can purchase them at a reasonable cost? Or, will what I am using even work for what I want to do? Lots of questions and maybe I should just email you.

Thank you for your time in answering my crazy questions.

P.S. Wow I didnt know those machines weighed in at over a ton!

[edit]Will any of these work? Cutters (http://toolguy.com/toolguyendmills.htm) Thanks again.[end edit:)]

Snake, the spindle on your drill press is just not rigid enough to keep the cutting tool from moving around, they are only made to bore a hole, not to side cut. At least you would have a very rough finish with lots of cutter marks and at worst you could break the cutting tool (they are very hard and brittle) and mess up the part you are working on.

Yeh I kinda left the thread hang for a while, cause I
got real busy with a bunch of stuff.
But Snake what boggerman said is true, and very few
drill presses have any kind of controllable motion
in any but the Z Axis. You need a lot more than that,
to consider doing one of these.
A knee mill is controllable in
X axis {side to side as you stand in front of the machine}
Y axis {front to back}
Z axis {up and down}
Z axis is actualy controlled in 2 way's,
you can move the quill like a drill press,
or you can lock the quill and move the whole
table up and down.
Even with this much control over what you're
doing, you end up with tool mark's that have
to be polished before a part can be called
complete.

Actually Foo
I thought I answered this, but I guess that was
in my other thread. Basically all my bodies will
have the same general look. But No Two Will Ever
Be Identical. If you have an idea as to how you
want you're body embellished, if it's do'able
on my machine without adding a lot of hour's
of machining time. Ive pretty much decided that
All AO'ers can can have my machining on they're
bodies done for $100.00 + shipping. If you want
me to install The feed neck and ball detent,
Those part's are extra $$.
We can talk about that in P.M.'s

ohhh... so every design IS new... heh, that's cool how you're not really mass producing the same body but just similar looking bodies... Nothing radically different like a different shape then huh? I wasn't really thinking radically complicated. Just wondering if you were going to try new things in the future.

Well
actualy what I'm doing is basically the same on
every body I do.
But if you read the commentary on the pic's
you'll realize I only take 2 measurement's in
the whole process, Right side/Left side .035 minimum
everything else is done by EYE. That mean's My
20 yr's of experience looking at what I have on
my machine, and how it look's to me when I set it up
for cutting. So even though they may look the same,
no two cut's are ever going to be the same.
I'm just expressing my art through my machine.

I understand that there are bad teachers. But there are bad machinists too… and bad cops… and bad Doctors.. and bad politicians.. and bad…… well, we all get the idea.

However, there are also GREAT Teachers as well. And if it was not for Teachers, there would not be a lot of the professions we see, and the skilled workers we have. Teachers take a lot of crap and get paid crap too for the most part, and have to put up with comments like that. Please don’t take this as a flame, because it isn’t…. what it is, is a reminder that not ALL teachers “can’t” do what they are teaching.

I for one have known some very smart and skilled teachers who could have made a whole lot more money DOING what they were teaching (and been damn good at it), but chose instead to pass their knowledge on to the next generation(s). Teachers are some of the most important people in any society……..

(Added: Not to mention that using School equipment for personal use may very well get that teacher in trouble. Unless he can tie it into an actual class and everyone benefits from it, he may not be allowed to even consider milling his student’s paintball markers. Sometimes things are simply out of people’s hands.)

Point taken Sam

[EDIT] {GEEEZZEE!! Sam now you got Me writing novel's}

I guess the way I read it, this Teacher sounded to
me like he has "Gun" issue's. I find that hard to
relate to, having been brought up in a generation
where I was REQUIRED to take a rifle to school.
The class was called Hunter Safety, and it was
taught in school when I was a kid.
I understand with the rash of school shooting's,
that Teacher's are somewhat leary {sp} of anything
that may be remotely related to the shooting sport's.
But by the same token I learned how to shoot from
my father in 1965, I grew up in a house where neither
the gun's nor the ammunition was locked up, Because
everybody in the house was taught Proper Respect for
the consequences of using them.
I'm going to be 43 yr's old in 5 week's, and I have never
had to shoot anybody{Thank God} but I have on several
occasion's in my life had to make a show of loading
a live weapon. That's as close as I've ever gotten to
shooting a person, and the BAD GUY always backed down.
{Thank God Again}
Because if the BAD GUY come's into My house and does'nt
back down when he hear's that weapon "Racked", I will
Shoot and never have a guilty feeling about it.
I have had in several of my post's the statement
Gun Control mean's Hitting what You Aim At
I'm a Firm Believer in Gun Control.
I was a competitive High Power Rifle shooter
even before I started playing paintball,
and I still shoot enough matches every year to keep
my NRA qualification current.

I do understand what you are saying about the fact that
there are Teacher's out there who could make a lot more money doing instead of teaching. But they see where they can make a contribution to the forwarding of Mankind
by teaching other's instead of just profiting by what
they know and can do.

It has to do with fitting the round Pem nut on the
slug body into the rectangular hole in the RT classic
rail, It may or may not fit as is. If it does'nt,
it will be easier to fit the hole in the rail than the
nut on the body.
Rick

P.S. Thanks Will I really appreciate you're good word's.

TransMan
01-21-2003, 03:26 AM
Pem nut..??? Ive never noticed a rectangular hole in my rail umm will there need to be any mods done to the sluggo for the RT valve to fit in it besides making the hole for the banjo bolt bigger?

FESTUS33
01-21-2003, 03:47 AM
You dont have to do anything for the banjo bolt,
it does'nt have any contact with the body.
The Pem nut I'm talking about, is the little
threaded thing that is welded to the bottom
of the body that hold's the body to the rail,
with the screw through the trigger loop.
I hope that clarify's thing's for you.
Rick:eek:

Now that I think about it You might have to put
a small O-ring between the rail and valve, that
will fit over the banjo to seal everything.
It might be a little hard to find one the right
size, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

01-21-2003, 03:54 AM

Good Idea Trans
If you get the extended body, all you have to do is
bolt the body to the rail and mark it where the banjo
goes. Then dismount it and drill a slightly bigger
hole than the banjo bolt, find a drill that fit's
the banjo hole in you're stock body snuggly,
and use that. Should come out perfect.
Good Luck

on my machine without adding a lot of hour's
of machining time. Ive pretty much decided that
All AO'ers can can have my machining on they're

me to install The feed neck and ball detent,
Those part's are extra $$.
We can talk about that in P.M.'s

Festus, thats some damn fine work. Most definately my favorite sluggo design yet. All you need now is a site an business name so people don't keep asking the same questions and where you can post all those sick pictures.

Too bad I already have a milled aluminum body with cocker threading
:D

my dad wants to know what kind of maching center was used, what kid of software was used, mastercam? and why where the pictures were taken on a bridgeport? he thinks that you can't make that peice on a bridgeport.

TKOMag123,
This is a Slug body made by AGD. Festuss33 did not build the ENTIRE body, he simply made flat cuts, then did the scalaps. (Which CAN be done on a mill.) :)

If you read the whole thread you will see that no "software" was used... ;)

All of the design came straight out of my imagination, and if he does'nt believe that that body can be made on a Bridgeport style knee mill, He,s more than welcome too come over {with a slug} and watch Me make another one.
I've been a machinist for close to 20 yr's, and the picture's posted at the beginning of this thread, were taken during the actual machining of this body.
Not trying to flame you're Dad, Just stating the fact's.
