I've checked every major paintball site, nothing. I have checked some police sites, they have shields, but are a bit pricey. Just wondering if anybody knew where I could get a shield, I'm tired of getting shot doing paintchecks. Thanks.

Use an umbrella! :D

The JT sheild is like 80.00 and is just a piece of plastic with a handle!

Hmmm....plastic with a handle. 80 bucks. Jeez, the bullet proof riot shield was less. Oh, and that umbrella, when I saw it, I busted up laughing!!:D :D :D

Police supply would be cheaper. Check the yellow pages.
Even cheaper still would be Home Depot. They sell acrylic sheets about 1/4" thick that you could put handle. I got a 24"x36" for about $10

If you can find it, Lexan is also available from some stores but is much more expensive. The thinnest I've seen is about the thickness of paintball lenses.

DYE used to sell them - but they really seem like snow saucers with nylon strapping on them (i bought one)

I've seen refs use boogies boards, umbrelllas and lexan sheeting (JT used to sell one out of plastic)

Yes to make one would probably be the cheapest. We made ours at our field, $80 is pretty steep for plastic.

why does everyone on AO seem so tough??... ill admit, im a whimp, if i were to be serious about reffing, i would def. make something or buy something to protect myself. myfirst choice would be an umbrella.. cheap, and you can get them in all diff sizes, you may laugh, but many refs use them. there was a vid on warpig where the refs use shields.. cant remember which one though...

Ya see, the field I ref at is an indoor field, only 48x100. Close quarters. We currently have to stop games for paintchecks, because it gets sooooo loud and people are just shooting anything that moves. On Sat., I got hit over 2 dozen times. And that was from standing on the sidelines!!

Well the thing was a joke halb as evident from the smilie.

(halb is following me around trying to argue cause he is about to be banned and he knows it. So for some reason he thinks thats gonna help or something)

Anyway I ref with no shield and sure I get hit. A lot some times. But that is the way I do it is all. YOU DO NEED A CUP though. Or one hand will always be um...well...busy! ;)

In pretty much any part of the country within driving distance of snow in areas with hills, the toy sections of large retail stores, and large toy stores usually have the cheap plastic snow saucers that are sometimes converted into paintball shields with a couple of pieces of nylon webbing and 4 pop rivets.

See you on the field,

No, but i got hit in the mouth when I was playing. Man, that Flex-7 is nice, but that ball hit the soft spot, so literally the ball bounced off my lip. It was bleeding pretty bad, and it's still swollen. Top that!! lol

Quit your complainin', thats happened to me plenty of times before. How bout the shot from Paul that defied gravity???
I'm still emotionally scared from that experience.
