AO MEGAMEET!!! May16-18th in Pittsburg PA!!

AO fans!

I have worked out a deal to host the first AO MEGAMEET at the original site of the Amateur Open in Pittsburg on May 16,17 and 18th. We will have the Sheraton Hotel bar to hang out in at night and two of our own airball fields with refs at the field 10 minutes away on saturday. On Sunday we are teaming up with Debbie's other event which is a big game so we are calling the whole thing the AO Megameet, Big Game and Paintball Flea Market.

Starting friday we will meet at the hotel for something cool to be decided, maybe a tech conference or something else, we have to decide. That night we go to dinner and hang at the hotel swapping stories all night.

On saturday we will have our own private corner of the field with two airball fields to do with whatever we like. That night more food and party at the hotel.

Sunday bring your stuff to sell in the flea market and best of ALL the entire AO group will get to play together on one team with the Borg General as your leader!!

I have worked out a deal for paint at 65 a case and there will be a pre-registration fee of 20 bucks that pays the field fees for the two days. We have to preregister in order to know how many are coming and work things out with hotels and refs. This will be about 8 weeks before the event.

Now we had talked about a Megameet some time back and I know a bunch of people wanted to work on it. If you are interested in being on the planning team please email Jon@airgun.com and tell him where you live and how you would like to help.

We have plenty of time to make this a HUGE blow out event so lets show the world what we can do!! SOmeone please list this in the AO Events thread.

It's 5-10 minutes from the field and sheritan the best I can find out.

There's also a cheaper place in the same town. Differnet name but Marriot run, with rooms from 69/nite I believe.

Since IAO officially only starts on the wednesday, I think Tom should have planned this for the weekend before IAO starts. Half of AO would be around anyway...

Mossman, my female is an employee for Tharaldson, which owns the Marriot family of hotels and all of its flavors.

This means, I can sleep at a hotel for around $35 a night. About as cheap as Motel 6! I would prefer Fairfiled Inn, as they have free continental breakfast!

I just need to find the dates of my final exams and confer with the buddies before committing to go. Sounds like a hell of a time!

the midwest? I'm from Minneapolis, MN It will be quite a drive if I do, like 30+ hours I believe. I won't mind the drive if I can get some people with me. Otherwise I'll buy one of those last second plane tickets and hope to make it. Is there any campgrounds around there? Camping at 20$ a night would help the ol' checkbook after I fly. Anyone got any tips or ideas? If I can get 4 people in my car from the midwest, and they're all pretty much on the way, and are willing to split gas (28/mpg) yet, '99 car very nice, comfy and fast! (note* not a ricer :)) it's a plymouth breeze. Let me know!

I can bring my truck but I just wanted to see if anyone wanted to ride so I don't have to talk to my self the whole way. The conversation after a while gets a bit dry. If I do bring my pickup we can load the bed up with equipment and that way you might be able to carry more in the van.

I have never been to an AO meet, but i have always wanted to go. I am thinking about going to this one because it is pretty close. The only thing is Im not sure what to expect, is it usually just a bunch old guys getting drunk at night and then playing senario ball all day. Or is it a wide variaty of players. Im wondering because im only 18, and even though i dont care what age people are when i play with them i dont wanna feel like some kind of young punk outkast in the group. Also when and where do you pay this 20 registration fee, and besides paint what other expenses are there (not including a hotel). Is it possible to only come for saturday and sunday, or even to just walk on on saturdays game. I hope someone can help answer my questions, cuz i really wanna go, meet, play, and shoot some of the people ive been talking to on this great forum.

There are young and old...and then some really old (phil)people. Many people from many different backgrounds, so there is always someone you can relate to. Yeah, the older crowd usually has a few beers and what not, but typically no one gets outta control. Er...wait...there was that party after the Shatner game...;) Anway, the bottom line is, if you can make it, come, you will have a blast.

Os for expense...Think of it as a weekend away from home.

As for the pre-registration. I would assume that as the meet gets closer you will find out more information on this. I think they would probably do the same thing they did for the tech class at the IAO and have an item in the online store or call the AGD office. I don't think they are taking the registration right now since I doubt Tom has everything worked out yet.

If anyone is flying in and needs picked up at the airport, please let me know. I would be more than happy to do it. I will not be able to pickup more than two people at a time, depending on the amount of gear.

BTW: the Pittsburgh Internation Airport (Airport Code PIT) is about 45 - 1 hour away from the field. Nice think is, it's just about a straight shot up 279N and you get to drive through the city.;)

Ok, here is what I want to do. Since I do not play much paintball any more, but for some reason still like to hang around you guys....I plan on filming some if not all of the event. I don't have really high tech equipment, but I do currently have two Digital 8 cameras and hope to have a third before the event. I also plan on looking into small wireless cams with decent quality. if anyone knows of some let me know. I would like to ask a few people to use either hopper cams or a mask cam. I have pretty decent editing gear, and since it is all going to be digital I can toss it to DVD when all done.

So who is with me? Who want's to be a camera monkey? Who is willing to wear a mask cam?;)

If anyone wants to bring and film with their MiniDV or Digital 8 cams (as long as it has a firewire jack) go for it. I'll bring my laptop to the field and we can dump the video down into Premiere. Or if you want, just give me the tapes, I'll take them home, dump them and then mail them back to you.

For the mask cams, I will have at least two (one for each side), and maybe more. I am looking at the small "lipstick" tube cams and the micro transmitters. For the loader cams, I was thinking of using the X10 wireless cams. They do not have great picture, but it's not too bad and they lend them selves well for loader mounting. They are also cheap and self contained. I already own two of them and plan on giving it a shot before the meet. If they work out, I will buy two more.

If you know of a place in the area, let me know since I have a cabin up in that area I also have quads and would really like to find a place to ride them up there.

Well, I could see there being a pre-registration just so they have a good idea of how many people will be showing up. They would probably work it like they did with the tech class at the IAO. Either call in the pre-reg or just purchase it on the online store. I don't think anything has been setup for this yet though.
