Well, I don't own any of these, but recall seing them on Tech TV, and have found a couple links for you.

Build your own Headphone Amp (http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/howto/story/0,24330,3405528,00.html)

Link to review of Airhead Amplifier (http://www.techtv.com/freshgear/products/story/0,23008,2321440,00.html)

Link to Headroom Corp: Producers of various Amps. (ie the Airhead Amp) (http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=27)

Hope this helps.

Hmm... I have a friend who's an EE major (Electrical Engineering)... I think I'm going to ask him to help me out on building one of these puppies. I use a CD player and car-kit to play in my car, and it's just lame, because I have to pump the deck's volume to get any decent amount of noise. THat, and when it's on a real quiet part of the song, it'll give off an annoying buzz.

I'll make a post with pics and stuff If I do end up doin' this.

BTW I doubt it's audiophile quality like the ones Xzion posted, but still make some sound on the go..

Are you talking like speakers for a portable cd player or are you talking a amp because they sale speakers at like best buy and places.

They've shown the "sound bug" on Tech TV as well, its neat, but not worth the money, the music doesn't really come out as well as it should. It's a neat concept, but it still needs alot of work to make it worthwhile. At least that's what I understood when it was looked at during some Tech Tv's shows. (Believe it was looked at by 'Fresh Gear' and 'The Screen Savers'). Hope that helps some! :)

Xzion, for sure.

It's a tech toy, not something an audiophile would like, but it is priced at $30. I'd assume it "gets the job done".

I'm just looking for something to boost little portable speakers... i'll probly just get some computer speakers and soldier up a battery.

I didn't think they'd be so pricey!

Not from what I've heard. take a look at the pic on the think geek page, the people practically have their ear pressed to the table, from what I understand, the only reason anyone would pick it up is for the 'neat' factor. you'd be better off buying a set of those inflateable speakers. From what I hear the sound quality is actually pretty good considering.

rhetor22,
You should try building the one i linked above, 30 bucks for something that will probably do the job. its not the best, but it aught to work :)
