This is the only real celebrity's death that has really made me sad.

Grew up on Mister Rogers and Sesame Street.

I'm sad. :(

That makes me sad. Such a super nice guy, he really was. A model human being. The world will miss him.

Oh that is so sad:(

One of my goals in life was to meet Jim Henson, muppet creator, I was really upset when he passed away suddenly.:(

..I watched a lot of mr. rogers too. I liked it when he fed the goldfish.

Someone told me he was a sniper in vietnam. Can someone confirm/deny this?

He was not a sniper in vietnam. That was one of those rumors. He was a great guy though, both on and off TV. IT is sad that he has passed, but, at least, he has touched alot of people during his lifetime in a positive way.

idk about that rumor about him in veitnam, my cousin is in the marines and that is what he told me that he was, cause thats what he heard in boot camp, he also told me that the reason that he wears long sleeve t-shirts is cause he has tatoos on them that say kill kill kill or something like that, that i dont nessicarily beleive but its cool to think about, an old man with that on his arms, liking little kids...MR. RODGERS ROCKED.

Mr Rogers was one of those celebrities that, if I heard he was still alive anytime in the past five years i would hae been surprised he hadn't died. He was old when i used to watch him on TV... right after Sesame Street and right before 3-2-1 Contact.

I'm sorry he's gone.

That's too bad. I, also, watched Mr. Rogers. AS for him being a sniper, as odd as that would have been, it's not true.

from snopes.com, the definitive urban legends site
Thus John Denver, known to the world as a gentle, nature-loving pop singer, is transformed into his antithesis: a professional killer. (As is Fred Rogers of television's Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. He too is rumored to have been a sniper, with even his penchant for long-sleeved cardigans ascribed to his hiding tattoos from the eyes of curious little tykes. Like Denver, Rogers never served in any branch of the military. He is an ordained minister in the United Presbyterian Church.)
That was from the page (http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/denver.htm) regarding John Denver being a sniper in Vietnam (also untrue).

he really was a great guy, i cant imagine a generation of kids who cant grow up with a guy in a red sweater saying "hello, neighbor!" every morning to them

Words cannot express how i feel right now. It's like I lost apart of my childhood. I actually cried this morning when I found out. That how much Mr. Rogers meant to me, I still watch the show whenever its on cuz I don't care if there re-runs or not. For a show of respect for a great and significant figure in my life, I will not post my sig.

that sucks i loved that show when i was a kid. based on his age though if he fought in any war it probably would have been korea or maybe ww2 because he was around 18 years old by 1945.
