I was looking at the extended slug Mainbody diagram, and I was just wonndering the importance of the Section VIEW "A". I noticed that on my regular mag body there doesnt seem to be anything of the type. My presumed function of the view was a spring retainer clip, or something along the lines of that. So if anyone could help me out that would be GREAT!!

Does this fit on a regular Automag rail? The AGD website says the regular SLUG does but this seemes to long.

Also why is the body so long? I know that it does extend over the valve, but the regular rail on an Automag is only 8" long.

So if o could get a picture of the new extended SLUG on a rail that would be great!

Pic 2...

Props to Tom. Like it alot. I was happy to grab the .dwg file. Now I do not have to mik the whole thing. Also, what are the washer and c-clip for? What type of feed port does it take? Very nice machine work. We stared at the body for about 45mins trying to figure out how it was made. Working on drawing over the next few weeks. Then throw it up on the CNC. What type of ball detent is this made for? I guess I can do whatever I want with it.

Personally, Id like to see something similar to your flame cockers and matrices...

Just got it. Going to see what we come up with. Possibly. It will take a few months. Doing drawing, then finally deciding, then programming, then machine. Then ano, then put together.

I believe it has Angel feed tube threads. Its made to take a Cocker/Angel detent I believe also.

Edit, a bit o/t, but I noticed the cuss filter censored your company name in your user text box. lol

alrighty i'm new to the forum So HELLO!! but iwas wondering say if i have autocad station and a cnc machine if i can just use this file to make the body! if not from this file does anyone have the file! its kinda cheating but o well!

You can use the dimensions from the Cad file to manually program the G-codes of the CNC. Takes a lot of knowledge of machining to program the Slug body. Or if you have a CAM program, you can import the Cad file. The using the Cam program, you program all of the moves of the CNC machine. Then upload the G-code to the CNC and make it. Machining is very complex and not easy as taking a Cad file and trying to throw it into a CNC and out pops the body. You still have to program the CNC. It would take many hours for an expert to program the slug with a Cam program.

lostcause310
04-26-2003, 06:57 PM
Yup he said it has a cam thingy! LOL.. so i can make my own just from the cnc! i kno theres gota be more!

Sean_at_KAPP
04-26-2003, 07:06 PM
If it has CAM, then you can program it yourself. No one will ever give out their G-code files. We spent coutless days perfecting our programs. If you want to copy stuff, then please go ahead and die. Yes, with a CAM Program you can do it, but you need to know how. Takes years for machinists to learn machining on CNC.

thats where the peeps at my dads work come in! works for me being 15 and not having enough money at that time being! i can just have my dads work absorb the costs and make it for me!

lostcause310
04-26-2003, 07:12 PM
but all they need is the drawing and they can do it right! or is it gonna take them a while to set it up on the cam!

Sean_at_KAPP
04-26-2003, 07:17 PM
To program it in CAM would take thousands of dollars in the machinist's time. If your daddy absorbs the cost, it would cost him a whole lot more money than if you buy the damn thing. $200-$250? Or Daddy doing it and costing him $4000?

Hey,
This isn't really about the slug body itself, but does anyone have a picture of the bottom of their xmag body? Or possibly some sort of CAD drawing of it. I doubt anyone is just going to give that away ;) but I want to make sure I have proper dimensions. Thanks

Hey,
Looks nice. I decided to make a full body (as opposed to body + rail) because I just love the xmags, I need some CAD stuff to do, and I want to have a mag out there that no one has (pics as soon as I am done......long ways away :( ) I'll see what I can put up (when i get something done) of my full bodied marker, but if anyone else has a pic of their xmag (the bottom and whatnot) or anything, that would rock. Thanks

Got it drawn up in Pro/E tonight. Tommorow I'll start with the ergonomics :).

Anyway, if anyone else is using pro/e, here is a .prt of the extended slug. It should be dead on accurate except for the threads, in which case its the OD of them.

Will save yah an hour or two.

It's been awhile, and I actually got a little bit done (been busy with the Advent and frames and stuff...) anywho, here is a picture of soemthign I've been working on. It encorporates the body and rail (like x-mags). I still need to fix up some of it a bit and all the good stuff. I'll stop talking so you can look at the pic.

can anyone tell me why the slugo wont fit an RT, i was wondering if it was just that the hole is too small for the banjo bolt, if any one could get back to me on that, it would be much appreciated.

Several reasons:
1) Yes, the banjo bolt is a problem.
2) The old RT valve isn't stepped down like the A.I.R., RT-Pro, Retro, or X-valve.
3) The slot for the "Z" lock pin for an RT is in the body instead of the rail like AGD's other markers.
4) The body surrounds the valve on an RT.
instead of the rail like AGD's other markers.

Hope that this helps.

Here is AndrewGore(OTB) iges Sluggo body converted into several different formats.

Format Types:
3ds
Ai
asc
ASE
cob
dwg
dxf
fbx
lwo
max (Version 5.1)
mtl
obj
off
raw
stl
w3d
wrl
x
xsi

All of those formats. I am going to post it onto our server at endlessquests. So if it gets a crappy download speed, we run several things off our server, including netmeeting software. For video conferences. It gets priority, so if you try to download during one of our meetings, dont be suprised if you get a 2K download rate.

Anyway, here is the link:
Sluggo Body in Multiple formats (http://www.endlessquests.com/files/Sluggo_Body.rar)

Its 962K, in rar format. If you dont have winrar, get it free at www.winrar.com.

wholy wow! Thanks, that is GREAT!

EDIT- Hey, these all basically look like part of the bottom is missing. It's got missing surfaces or something. Possibly I'm just not seeing it right, but I've tried everything that works in both Rhino and Solidworks, and none of them look right. I still would love to see a good .3dm file. Thanks.

That is exactly how they are from his file. I am going to close one up as if it were the real deal. And redo that entire rar file. So give me a few days to get it done. I do this kind of stuff for a living, so I kind of get tired of looking at my comp screen all day. But I will do my best to have it redone complete, and re rared within the next few days.

Thanks

Sorry to say this, but the orignal Sluggo body, the mesh anyway, looks like crap. Nothing lines up, and it will require alot of rework to get it straight. So I am thinking of just building a new mesh, to specs. As soon as someone gets me the specs for the body, I will get a new mesh made for it. If I remember right, someone already made something that showed the deminsions somewhere, I just dont remember where I seen it at. But if someone can point me to that file, or spec sheet. I will make a new mesh, that will be much easier to work with. I can export to like 20 of the most common formats. So I am sure I can get a workable mesh for everyone to use, that knows how to work inside a 3d program. I use 3ds Max 5. I convert with Deep Exploration, so I have plenty of formats I can make it. I just need those specs. If someone from AGD would be so kind as to send them to me. I will get started on a new workable mesh as soon as I get the specs.

Thanks
Rob

P.S. For some of you begginer modelers. I can even make it a gmax file if you need it in that format. But if you are using gmax, then you can just import a 3ds file, just as easy.

DK1
12-03-2003, 04:50 PM
that's great. I mostly just tinker around with Rhino a little, self taught. I've made a few barrels, valve ideas... basically putting something down to get a picture of what I'm thinking. I'd like to try something a bit more complex, and the sluggo looked like a good canvas to use.

Too bad none of these files can be modified in Rhino, from what I know.

At least I got Lightwave and will have Solidworks to fall back on.

Ice-Child
12-04-2003, 01:36 AM
First off, why cant they be modified in Rhino ? I dont know, I have never used Rhino. But if it is because of file type, then let me know. I have other tools I can convert with. So I am sure I can come up with more file types if someone needs them. I should probably just do the body, in like 3ds, seeing as how almost everything can use a 3ds. Save on download as well.

Anyway, let me know why you cant work with it, and we will see what we can do.

The objects inside the file do not respond to commands such as BooleanDeifference. I can open and view the files, but they cannot be modified.

Maybe there is a setting that I have to change... but I doubt it.

ok guys, im almost done, just a couple more days, ive been sick lately and 6 classes are killing me right now, but thank god that im in a CAM class right now, so hopefully by the end of the semester ill be able to make my own body, we've got a 4axis cnc that i think will work nicely, also please let me know if you want it in solidworks form as 2007 version or 2008, because I;m drawing it in 2008, but i can try to back convert, as you cant pull 2008 into 2007 with out converting it to a different format

when you get the file all done shoot me a 2007 copy to jpanach @ gmail.com thanks
hmm... *****, seems like my version of 2008 doesnt like me anymore, back to 2007, besides thats what my school still has, and i do alot of transfering back and forth, so it looks like ill have to redraw it, thats ok, its only like the 3rd time ive done it, so it should go alot quicker, ill try to get it all done by the end of this weekend guys, no GF comming over to distract me, so hopefully i can get that and all my homework all caught up, my CAM class is looking promissing, ill try and get a list of all the emails together and send an email to everybody for an update and asking what format and or what format you want it in, but most likely once i get it all done ill send it all in solidworks 2007 solidpart format, which will include the extended version and the regular length and both of the dxf files along with that so i can make everyone happy

sorry guys, ive been really busy with work and school and my car lately, ill try to get them out today, i only have them in solidworks 07 and the original DWGs from AGD, both the original and extended i beleive, i usually just send all of the files to everybody so that they have all of them if they need them.

*EDIT*
ok, guys, just send out a mass email with all the files, hopefully thats all you need, if not just email me back, if anyone else needs the files post here and ill try to get back to you within a week or so, or if its urgent email me @ [email protected]

I checked my inbox, didn't see anything. Could you send me both files as a dxf and as a sldprt or whatever solidworks extension you've got? I'm not sure which will be easier to convert into CATIA. My email is [email protected]. Thanks.

Anyone spent any time comparing the differences between the layers: Custom_Rail; Rail4A and DFRM for differences in the spacing of the thumb screw hole, front frame screw hole and twist lock hole?

I am curious for those who have actually built something which you referenced?

I am messing around in solidworks and am trying to model the rail, i figured i may as well make the spacing as accurate as possible.
