Sure, they can take hits. I don't know how useful (or legal) they would be in regular play, though. If you think about it, it would be very easy to cheat with these, using the water to wash paint away.

That being said, I HAVE seen lots of people who use them in big games or scenerio games. When you're going to be on a field for an extended period of time, they can be very helpful - especially on hot days. ;)

i'm fairly sure they can. i've used mine a couple times in big games, but i've never taken a shot to the back. i saw some other people take them, and the paint mainly bounced.

I use mine during the summer months. They sould be tough enough to take paintball hits.

I've thought of doing this but I'm to cheap to go buy one. So I just buy a big bottle of Arrowhead water and keep it in a cooler and take it to the fields.

They work great, hits don't bother them and you can drink without having to remove your mask. THAT is a big bonus.

I've used mine quite a few times. They come in handy for those times when you're gogged and the paint goes into your mouth...God, that's the most disgusting taste in the world!! Someone should invent flavored paint--then getting gogged wouldn't be so bad! Anyway, I wouldn't have purchased one on my own, but now I've got four of them thanks to the Air Force. It seems like every time we deploy, they give us one, or every summer, they give us one...

I have a scenerio coming up soon, I might think about that for the hot part of the day...

I've worn mine before when its REAL hot out.

Its small and light enough to not bother you that much, plus hits in your back don't hurt. It's held up fine to hits, you don't have to worry about it breaking.

Actually, Tack does. He wore one during the AO Missouri meet. I would suggest asking him if you have questions on it.

in the matter of fact, i recently found a good-tasting paintball

the new PMI/RPS Scherer Mercury

its a REALLY brittle shell, will break from a 1ft drop, and the fill is as thick as toothpaste, and it dries to a powder instead of an oily mess... did i mention that it tastes like bubble gum toothpaste/mouthwash?

Ive seen a few. They have a VERY low profile, I wouldnt worry too much about getting hit, but I wouldnt use it for speedball. I would just have water in bottles then :) but for long, hot rec ball days it might be a good idea. And it alllways stays cold :)
