Happened to have my digicam during a team practice and saw this happen. Basicly he slid into the bunker head first and put to much weight on his gun or something.

A really short tipped barrel, with like no porting. Get a dremel and get crafty. :)

It's a good thing the Smart Parts trash took the abuse and snapped, that coulda had some bad effects on his barrel threads/grip frame if he held on hard enough :)

That barrel isnt a freak if thats what you are talking about. Its most likely a teardrop or a progressive because it doesnt seem to have the threaded middle break.

Ah, the age old Smart Parts Pop-N-Fresh Crescent Roll catastrophe...

This is the fourth time I have seen this, twice in person. It has to due with the number of holes and how closely they are drilled to each other, it weakens the strength of the material. They have the same problem with the SS backs where they carve the name into the thinest part of the metal, I've seen those bend and twist with little effort. This is a problem that Smart Parts has known about for a few years now.

Look at the shear line where the barrel seperated and you will see that there is very little metal used to hold the front end together. You can bend these things by hand if you're not careful.

Quality engineering... NOT!

I bet if anyone slammed into a bunker hard enough to snap there barrel in half, it wouldnt matter if it were SP, DYE, or anyother company out there. Any would still break.

good point with the hitting bunker hard enough part, but it is true...if you did the same thing with a titanium dye barrel it still stands the chance of being broken....these barrels are made so thin so they can save money on materials and also make them as light as they can, so they with stand "NORMAL" playing conditions!

Upon recieving my Smartparts freak style tip, I've wondered if all the porting weakened the barrel's structure any. I guess I know now :)

No way. Look how much they took off the front. The metal is so weak. it bent/broke where the porting is.

This is the reason I use my stock Emag barrel for Rec play. It's a tank. I know my freak is not a very strong barrel, but the low weight and its inserts make it more attractive for tournament play.

yikes, that looks rather dangerous. Did you slam into a hard bunker? ground?

Whats with all the SP hate? sheesh, my powerfeed on my RT 3 years ago simply fell off the gun one day, but i haven't gone around yellin and screaming about that. (for the record, SP has done nothing but go completely out of their way for me to make sure that i'm a satisfied customer, probably a little bit under what AGD would consider normal business practice though...)

Well obviousally dumbass. Anything is going to break where it has a hole or some type of "weakness" not where there is no porting or anything, jesus, im sick of people like you.
