If You have gone to a Texas AO day, you know how fun they are and Chances are that if you havent gone, your sorry you didnt! Well Last August's Austin AO day was a BLAST, boasting well over 50 people running massive airball and hyperball games on some of the best fields around! The last Dallas AO day was the biggest yet with just over 80 people, lets try making THIS ao day even BIGGER and BETTER!

How do you ask? Imagine the biggest airball set-up you've ever seen with more than enough room for 20 on 20 for such a big event! Imagine DIRT CHEAP prices making it easy for you to afford beating up on fellow Aoers for online brag-rights(shut up those trash talkers!)!

I talked with our very good friend Mr. Joe Petty(vern1 on AO) who owns and runs www.pettypb.com and he has some very cool stuff in store for us AOer's!

Field Fee/All day Air/BYOP for $7.50 ! Along with his usual fresh PMI Premium paint for $55 a case(maybe $50 if we get a huge list of people going!) The fee is HALF their normal fee so he is REALLY cutting us some slack, lets give a fellow AOer some GREAT business! As usual, Although they are BYOP lets do the best we can for a friend and buy our paint from him, it is cheap great quality paint(check the site for full listing).

You all know the drill check www.pettypb.com for field info, maps, WAIVERS (http://www.pettypb.com/releaseinfo.html) , etc. They have 4500fills(he's got the means to keep up with 4500fills all day for 200+ people!) and covered staging areas(plenty of room). They sale food and drinks(great selection!).

Remember the rules, refer to this post for the latest info, it will constantly be updated by myself and Clare. Don't forget the important things like - maps, chairs, masks for ppl who will be watching, signed waivers if your under 18, and barrel condoms(they dont allow plugs - condoms ONLY). We'll have name tags for everyone aswell so the newcomers know whos who.

Post how many people you will be bringing. Let us know if you need a ride hopefully someone coming from your area will have room.

We're working on organizing Friday night Dinner along with Afterplay Dinner :)
Hotel Info:
Hampton Inn

Sat. night afterparty here! (http://www.austinspark.com/)

The date is set for July 5th(Saturday). This gives plenty of time for everyone to clear thier calenders. We had to choose this date because everyone is dying for the Austin meet but there is a ton of events and other things going on that this was our window of when we could have it. As it is, it's a week before IAO so it'll be cutting it close for Clare and I but we try and do these things for YOU!

As what has become normal for the Texas AO days, we will be making a music video of this meet(the links to our past vids in Clare's first post!)!

As always at AO/AGD functions I will also be doing free repair/tuning work for anyone having trouble with thier AGD gear :).

the last Austin AO day after thread (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44657)

Get Ready for Some TEXAS style AO FUN!

WHY the day after July 4? That's when our family reunion is in Massachusetts... :(

Anyway, stick me down as a maybe. Daroach will have to post his own reply on whether he is going or not. If I am here in town, my apartment is open to anyone to stay here. It'd probably be a good idea to bring sleeping bags and pillows, though, as all I have is my bed (and I don't share) and a hide-a-bed couch. :)

put me down as a maybe. i really want to go and im off on the 4th, i just have to make sure the wife has nothing planned.

edit: just out of curiosity, are there any special events planned in the city for the fourth? AO fireworks night!

edit2: is it better to get a hotel near the airport (south austin) as it is closer to the field or in north/downtown austin?

logamus - if you are going to be in austin for the 4th it might be best to get a hotel downtown - you'll be able to see the fireworks from townlake from downtown and it's pretty cool cause the fireworks reflect off the buildings from downtown. although i am not sure about the prices on the hotels and it might be a bit pricey if you get a hotel downtown as well

logamus
04-21-2003, 10:23 PM
well to be quite honest, i plan on hitting 6th street pretty hard and just figured i would take a cab. but, it might be easier from that aspect to get a hotel downtown. thats something we need to look into because checking around online several hotels are already full for that weekend.

btw, you can remove the maybe, im a deffo.

You guys are welcome to stay in my apartment for free as long as you have your own pillows and blankies and sleeping bags or something (as I have no extras)...unless you're not interested in using any of those items. :) Anywho, just let me know who is interested. Daroach will be here, too, so it's not like it'll just be me or something.. :p

This is an edit to my earlier post. I'm not actually editing that one because people might not see it...

You guys can stay with me as long as you have your own pillows and blankets and stuff, and you realize you're sleeping on the floor.

ALSO NOTE: I have a CAT so please take that into consideration. I don't want anyone dying on me at my apartment. :p

As of right now, I think there will be 5 people staying in my apartment (including myself). Since Daroach is coming, he'll probably bring his XBOX and/or PS2 so there can be gaming sessions on my bad-*** 27" flat-screen TV (but no rough-housing!). I also have an old-school SNES, and my apartment overlooks the pool. So there are good times to be had by all, and even those of you who aren't interested in staying with me can come over for as long or as little as you like. If you have any questions/concerns, PM me! :D

Yay! Thanks for making the trip out, Miscue! :D

I can't find any events of interest going on during the weekend other than the free outdoor Austin Symphony Fireworks Concert on Saturday night but not a lot of people are up for that. There's always Sixth Street, though (for those who have never heard of it: it has dance clubs, bars, pool halls, restaurants, comedy clubs and live-music venues).

We'll still have to plan where we'll be having our AO day dinner!

Goodbye to texas university

"t.u." is not funny. It is NOT insulting. It is dumb. Just
imagine if folks from Texas kept talking about M&A and giggling. That would not be funny. In fact, it would be retarded. That's why UT fans don't do it. Please learn.

silly teasippers

Again, something that isn't very funny nor creative.

And another thing. Whoop?!?!

Men should never let out high pitched whooping sounds. Perhaps the only justifiable situation in which this can be tolerated is perhaps during an anal probe. Oh wait...I understand now.

Way to go Marek on your post about how stupid the terms "t.u." and "teasippers" are! :)

Logamus, you don't even go to A&M which makes teasing you about your 'school spirit' so much more fun!

This friendly Texas AO school rivalry is humorous. But all of you A&M fans need to remember this: you may have been founded before UT, but that's only because A&M started out in Austin and Austin realized (very quickly) how lame an agriculture and manufacturing school could be and threw you all over to College Station. In the glorious year of 1883, UT was born and the world hasn't been happier! And regardless of what you say, The University of Texas is THE University of Texas! ;)

P.S. my apartment is still available to anyone who needs a place to stay, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, creed, political affiliation... oh, and school... :D

**edit: Oh, and Daroach - I doubt I'll be dropping my pants for anyone any time soon... :P However, if anyone disses the best school in the world (that's UT, for those of you without the ability to comprehend) in my apartment, you will be subjected to an *** beating!

Of course we take it seriously. A&M is like the nagging little brother that wants to hang around with the big boys, so we humor you guys. We really don't hate you, we just like someone to make fun of when we're bored....or trashed.

But enough of that, this is not a Longhorn/Aggie fight contest, this is a thread about how much better UT is (and an Austin AO meet.....I think). But hey, at least its not some guy from Tech saying that we are rivals. They think everyone they play are their rivals.

I think it may have something to do with water pressure from the Gulf, it holds the lightweight state of texas in place. Also, if you didn't notice on the map (that big picture with all the lines), Mexico is kinda pinching Texas right in there. How do you like that? Texas is quite dependant on Mexico. "Remember the Ala Mode!"

Haha, this is fun. I'm thinking we need a TX vs OK AO day. The AORedRiverDay.

isaaclim

actually....Texas may slide into the gulf some day. Right now Texas is kind of split in two due to increasing pressure from sediments in the gulf. The subsidence(sediments weighing down) in the gulf creates tremendous pressure on this part of the continental crust, thus we have the balcones fault system running through Texas due to these pressures.

In reply to oklahoma sucking the state of Texas onto north america...this is actually half correct. Texas has had a unique metamorphic history with certain land masses, terrains, and islands that have smashed into Texas in the last billion years or so. Now the forces to have these land masses come together probably have nothing to do with sucking or attraction, but nevertheless they collided in a such a way to create Texas.

I hope i got all that right, especially since i spent about 60 hours in the field this semester analyzing rocks to support the interpretation that i wrote above.

oh yeah....ummmmm paintball is cool and AO is the bestest

Nickshot1...I'm assuming you've forgotten your physics and/or geology. For one, water pressure is the pressure that works in conjunction with gravity, so it pushes down. I think you meant to say buoyancy. But Texas does not need buoyancy, nor does any other continent. The ground pretty much goes all they way down and meets up with the mantle. So water has no effect on whether the land mass stays afloat.

And Mexico does not really pinch Texas since its all part of the same continental mass. For now North and South America are quite happy being together, but maybe in a few million years we'll see them split up again. who knows?

oh...to make this thread pball related I will say.....i like automags. they are cool

OK folks, this thing is about a month and a half away.
What kind of airball field setup do you want?
Standard tourney size and layout or just a huge fun field with lots of bunkers and blind moves?
For a large setup say 250 or 300 x 100 feet with about 40 BIG bunkers and lots of angles, blind shots/moves and a busy 50 to accomodate 20+ players per side?

In other news, has anyone ever seen the episode of SpongeBobSquarePants where Sandy Cheeks gets homesick? I have it on DVD, it's grrrreat.

Yeah, congratulations Postit, sorry, I didn't mean to call you an Oklahoman.

As for Clare, she's not Mexican, she's Brazilian (that's where she gets the Capoeira) but she was born in Anadarko, she told me. She also told me she would deny it if anyone found out.

Okay, now for Barry Switzer...he's a good coach. He turned OU into a powerhouse in the 70's. Just because he joined Dallas when they were hungover from their previous SuperBowls-they were all on crack or other drugs, raping and killing women, injured, and violent...he was too busy trying to survive to coach well.

As for Colorado, I've never been there, I'm sure it's lovely.

well lets give barry some credit, he won a superbowl and should have beat the niners in the conference championship. thats not exactly "taking a dump" on cowboy fans. he just had the unfortunate position of being the guy to follow jimmy. whomever came after jimmy was not going to be terribly well liked. and as far as aikman goes, i cant knock his three rings but the guy has nothing else but a big bag of concussions. i would have been much happier if the boys would have taken barry sanders in 89 and went with walsh as qb. but thats my opinion.

i have never been to colorado, i might one day, but the cold is not a friend to me and its far too cold there for my liking.

i dont know about anyone else, but im sick and tired of this damn mexican smoke.

That's what I'm talking about. I am an Anti-Cowboy Fan. But my other favorite team...Detroit Lions. I've been through some stuff with that team. But, Barry Sanders made the NFL what it was. He is a god. If he had gone to Dallas, I would've HAD to become a Cowboy fan.

Barry Sanders makes Emmitt Smith look like a chump.

Now...tell me where Barry Sanders went to college.

i will say it without fear, he went to osu. he was recuited there by jimmy johnson and went on to be the greatest running back, perhaps the greatest player in nfl history.(some guys named elway and montana might argue with me on that one) no player has done more with less help than barry. my ultimate fantasy is to go back in time and see number 20 in the cowboys backfield. one can only imagine the records that would have fallen if barry was given emmits line. not to knock smith, he is a fine running back, but there is a whole other level that barry is on. props to oklahoma for barry sanders.

UTLadiesMan
05-17-2003, 10:15 PM
I (as would many of today's coaches) would take Emmit in his prime before Barry. Yes, Barry was one of the top running backs of all time in stats, ability, and the way he carried himself on the field... however, while Barry would have a higher average yards per carry, most of them came on a few break out runs. He could get 125 yards in a game, and 100 of them would be on 5 carries, the rest would be over 15-20 carries with a few TFLs. Emmit in the same situation could put up 100 yards on 25 carries, but have them evenly divided. While its definately nice to have a running back break loose and go for 30 yards and the first down, I'd rather have a 1st and 3rd back who could get me a first down EVERY time it was 4 yards or less. It helps more keeping the drive alive than putting 30 yards on the first carry, then having to punt a few downs later.

Not to mention, 3rd and goal at the 2, and your break out rusher is no better than a 3rd stringer.

So... go Smith!

well ladiesman, i would suggest to you that if barry was equipped with the line that emmit had, the 15-20 meaningless carries he had in detroit would be at least as productive as emmits. its the old question that can never be answered, just debated. would there be any difference if you were to swap teams? if emmit played for detroit and barry played for dallas, who would have the better numbers? i totally agree with you that often times barry would have less than stellar days, but emmit was not then and is not now capable of the runs barry did. its a good ol fashioned debate that i enjoy, and goes even better with beer! :D

Nick1Shot

Part of what made Barry Sanders such a great back was his versatility. It's the same in any sport. He was talented to run any way he needed. He could run short yardage, long yardage, up the middle, off tackle, delay, around the end, sweeps, reverse, I even saw him pass the ball several times. He did all this with a not very good team, and one horrible coach after another. The owners of the Lions were even worse. ANYONE should know that if you've got the best running back in the history of the sport, that you can spread 4 recievers and throw deep ALL DAY LONG. Did the Lions? Nah, they stuck to a formula that didn't work. They wouldn't even invest in a decent QB until Batch...who came when Barry was leaving. I've seen Barry Sanders fly, but they pulled him out every time they were within 5 yards of the goal line. Barry was not used wisely, or correctly, and he still did what he did. He rocks! Emmitt, don't even start...Barry would rock his socks.

I mean common the last 2 times I stayed in that state I was not overly happy with it. I hope during this trip you all can change my outlook of the state :P

But on a light note you all dont have to do much to make it better than my last 2 stays... The first was for USAF Basic military training then followed by 4 months in Witicha Falls (Ugg). The second was a 2 week trip that ruined my former marrage due to my stupid Ex who I had to leave back in PHX.

This time im comming unattached and without any agenda other than having a blast and playing on that awesome feild. What ever we do after is cool...... and better than working outside in Phoenix :) No way in hell this trip can go bad for me this time :)
