There's a wealth of information on these boards, and I feel like an arse saying this but you could probably do a search and find just what you're looking for. :)

Annodizing is quite expensive but looks great but there's also the option of powder coating which is just as good and much more affordable.

Try searching through AO for key words such as "powder coating" or "annodizing" lots of stuff on AO.

All depends on your taste in design and color options... I don't recommend spray painting it.. it peels eventually and does not look as great.

uhhh..you might want to look into the powdercoating. you can't anodize a mag body, they're steel...

Maginator, you are an annoying noob yourself, leave us alone. Do you even know what movie your above pic is from? Are you allowed to see the ones with the big "R" yet?

What's wrong with asking where/how to get a paintjob for a Mag?

if you got to the dealer forum in the classifieds i think there are 2 threads with cheap anno's / powdercoating...

Hey, you have a few options here:

The spray paint does not usually adhere well to the stainless steel body.

You can annodize anything on the gun that is aluminum.

The body is stainless steel, so you can only do a few things to it:

Polish it / chrome it / nickel it

All of these require polishing but the gun looks great when you do it.

Or powdercoating.

Powdercoat can and does wear in spots sometimes, but it gives you a consistent surface and color over the entire gun because it works on aluminum and stainless. This may be an option for you because it is also pretty low cost.

I had an old 68 classic gray right feed body.I wanted a black body. Did I have $120 to spend on a new black body? No. But I did have a 5 dollar bill, went up to Wal*Mart and picked up a can of black Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat. Couple coats of that, and it's a nice flat black color. Looks just as nice as I wanted it too for like 115 dollars less. We're not all rich ya know...

I've also seen people use rock guard on their guns. Gives it a nice texture :)

My preference is a better coating, but the good spray paints may hang in there. Make sure you take the marker completely apart, and anything to be painted needs to be washed in HOT water with dish detergent (DAWN, etc)

That will get any oil off of the parts that would keep the paint from sticking.

Good luck

* And yes, I had an AutoMag (http://www.docsmachine.com/galleries/tinitride.jpg) Titanium Nitrided about five years ago. Cost a fortune and wasn't that great looking.

just so noone gets confused, thats Doc's comment not mine... I would never do that to a mag. Looks neat for a, "yeah thats different" kinda thing, but its definately not my cup of tea. :)

If you sanded the mag then primed it then carefully added the black coats and maybe even clear coat it after that it would probably come out pretty good.

It doesn't look like this has been brought up yet, but Painting your mag body will void the warranty. It's best to get it powdercoated (as I think powdercoating doesn't void the warranty... Or I haven't heard that it does) or to get a ULE and a cocker-threaded barrel

hey Cryer, could you clarify this? Is this because plating adds thickness to the body and will mess with the tolerances? Powdercoating isn't that thick I suppose right?

He can’t. It isn’t true.

Powder coating, for those who just don’t understand, IS painting. It however uses a dry powder electrically charged to stick to the metal when sprayed at it instead of a wet spray. Then it is heated to melt the paint powder, and finally baked to harden it (in one continuous process with two concurrent timed stages). It all but eliminates “running” and bakes the paint onto the metal to form a more durable covering. But folks, no one confuse it for anything other than “paint” because that is what it is.

You CAN spray paint your markers and it in itself will not void the warrantee (to my knowledge). Using spray paint CAN also be done with good results if you do it right AND take care of your marker. It is however, not as durable as powder coating.

We will no longer fix markers for free either under the limited warranty or the star warranty if the marker has an aftermarket part and/or accessory that causes a problem. Some examples of modifications and/or parts that can cause problems include:
a. painted mainbodies

As I interpret that, if the paint throws off the tolerances it will void the warranty. Painting and then sanding down the paint on the underside where body contacts the rail should avoid any tolerance issues. :D

Or mask off those areas. Another area to avoid painting/coating/whatever are the areas on the rail & gripframe where the two meet.

Anno didnt do anything to my gun, its still reactive as ever, the tolerancies were not thrown off any little bit.
