I was over at my dad's house a few days ago and found some old Action Pursuit Games in my room there. I have a stack of about 20 from ~1993-1996. I got a scanner at work recently so I thought you guys would find some of these old scans interesting:

Here is the cover of the Nov 1993 issue. Notice the minimag with the milled rail and the original goofy VL-2000 with the neoprene cover.

http://yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Nov03Cover.jpg

Here is another add, this is for 63 caliber eliptical paintballs shot from a spring fed magazine.

http://yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Nov03Safety.jpg

Here is an add for the original motorized View Loaders, the VL-1000 and VL-2000. They would suck now but I had one at the time and it was glorious :) This was part of the old Smart Parts add...

I'll post more if you guys are interested.

Haha, sweet. Keep it coming if there's more to show. Some of us youngin's were still in diapers when these crazy oval paintballs were being sold :)

Alright, work is boring today so I'll do a few more scans.

Here is an add from the May 1993 issue for the sniper ball kit, which you fastened onto the end of a paintball and then muzzle loaded. Pretty crazy!

This is an updated color add in March 1994 for the Safety Paintballs and guns. Now they have "long" and "short" versions of their 63 calibre oblong paintballs. Big pic:

Alright, off to a meeting. I'll post a couple more interesting ones when I get back.

I guess those never caught on :)

I was able to ditch my meeting and watch it on webcast.

Ok, here is another March 94 add. This is for the autotracer, a bolt on kit for your tracer pump gun to make it a semi. Can't imagine any field owners ever got a bunch of these.

http://yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar94Tracer.jpg

Here is an add for the infamous Magic Box mod made by Smart Parts for the automag. Lots of debate at the time for this expensive bad boy.

http://yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar94Mag.jpg

Once upon a time J&J teamed up with Smart Parts to make this barrel:

Alright, last one for now. Back to May 93. This is the Mark 2 paintball gun, with internal paintball storage (like a BB gun).

The dart shaped sniper balls were cool. I used them in my old PMI1 before semis were abundant(out of 30 guys, like 4 had semis, .68 Specials mainly)
The Machofire never went into production I don't think, just drawings.

that stuff is awesome, i remember staring at the smart parts ads and dreaming of the hooked up automags. ;)

those were the days. $.10 a ball was a deal.

Actually when you replaced that "shoot me here" dome on the front those worked well. I just got rid of one about a year ago. :D

that vl-2000 is great. a friend of mine pulled his old one out last week and a bunch of kids were asking if he would sell it cuz they thought it was new and cool since they never saw one before. he had them going telling them it was a new halo c and could feed 50 bps.

Yea, but heaven forbid if the electronics got hit (thus the neoprene covers). Or you broke a paintball inside (since it couldn't be pulled into two halves.

Those are cool but I've got older ones here. How about the premier issue of APG???

With the old VL2000, you used to be able to buy just the electronics in a kit to install on your hopper. Remember USI? They got the kits and put them on their hoppers and Dave Bell was none too happy.

I've got a couple of them here too...somewhere.

I wonder how they shoot?

Think you can find one somewhere for an autococker...cause that would be awesome.

Hrrmm... someone look into it, im too lazy.

I can't say I ever remember having seen those. I do remember I use to think the old brass J&J barrels just sucked. They were like $30 and still a rip off. Or maybe I just read to many Smart Parts adds :)

Kind of interesting that they advertised a twist-lock barrel...

Mags were one of the two guns used in tournaments- either the mag or the autococker. that was pretty much it. And the All A's used mags I believe. I ha a J&J brass on my old automag and I loved it except that you had to polish it like every month.

Here are a few more:

The March 1994 cover. When is the last time you saw 10 round tubes on the cover of APG? And cheating caught on video? Thats not new. They use to use a method called "the train" where they would charge at the flag station in a line and the first guy would keep running a few feet after he was hit and act like a shield.

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar94Cover.jpg

Here is the Tipman Pro/Am add on the back cover of May 93's issue. They were big on the Miller tough guy vibe :) Check out the 60 round ammo box.

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar94Back.jpg

And of course the Vents Predator add. At the time they were top of the line. They were one of my favorite goggles but I had to get rid of them when I couldn't find new lenses a couple years ago.

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar94Vents.jpg

The automag is not the only gun with a bore drop breach barrel. Here is a pic of the F-2 illustrator, a great gun at the time IMO.

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/May93F2.jpg

In 93 they still sold silencers. Except to CA of course.

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/May93Taso.jpg

I thought this add was funny. The 12 oz Co2 tank was a "New tournameng craze." Co2 tanks were expensive back then ($50 for a 12 oz!!).

http://www.yttangsoodo.com/Pics/Mar93Craze.jpg

Lastly, here is the Smart Parts adds. If you think paintball is expensive now, it was worse then IMO. Couldn't find any adds with paint prices though. Notice the 93 autococker. No inline reg, nelson springs, adjustable lug, beaver tail, ball detente, threaded timing rod, stainless pump arm, 45 frame, cut block, etc etc. They have come a LONG way.

Thanks for posting these, brings back memories.:D

I Still have my Vents, and even have a spare lense, but I have retired them. They were and still are great goggles, that NEVER fogged on me.

I also still have my F2 Illustrator, also retired. Mine didn't come with the rear sight in the ad, and I don't remember ever seeing one.

It was replaced with my Minimag. My foggy memory tells me I paid $525 for a stock Minimag (with no bottle)
back when I first bought it. It was a good price at the time from what I remember.

It's Dejavu all over again!!!
I got my F2 when I started playing tourneyball. Even upgraded it to a custom powerfeed. The Vents goggles are in the box with the F2.

I think I spent about $525 for my minimag, then camosplashed it, and later added a double trigger...

http://www.automags.org/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=736777

At one point, I even had one of those TASO silencers. But sold it cause they are pretty easy to homemake with PVC.
