its a legit question, has way to many variables to really be answered, but is still legit...

What types of variables?

On an automag, with nitro, what is the quietest 12inch barrel?

armson stealth, or a All American those only come in 14" lengths i think)

Jacko Infinity... but they only make angel barrels now. :(

Other than that, longer length with lots of porting makes for a quieter barrel...

All Americans are very quiet on mags. I had an AA on two different mags I owned, and really all I heard was the bolt.

My JJ is very quiet. I got to play with one of the new Stiffi all graphite barrels, and it was so quiet, you could hear the bolt clanging back and forth on a MicroEmag. On a 'Cocker, the back-block made more noise.

Both were shot with paint.

I plan on geting a Stiffi barrel soon. At only 2oz, it could be a cannon for all I'd care:)

One of the uys I play with uses a mag with a 12" Freak with AA tip. And it is VERY quite. I used to run a 16" AA on my minimag back in 98 and it was very quite too.

the guietest barrel I've heard was a SS Dye back with a 32* Whisper front.

Anyone own both the J&J Ceramic aswell as the AA, and able to tell which is quieter?

Actually, change the length of choice to 14 inch

I think my Jacko Infinity 14" is a little quieter then my Teardrop 12". It is vastly different then my old friend's guns with non-ported and lightly ported barrels. They used to joke about seeing my paint flying at them but not hearing me;) It was a bish to find that Infinity though, and that was a few years ago.

i would say that the j&j ceramic is quieter than the all american. j&j ceramics run about 40 bucks new too. another nice quiet barrel to check out are the otp barrels with the small porting (not the demon series).

you'd better steer away from the AKA javelin if you are looking for a quiet barrel...don't get me wrong, I love my javelin and it's wickedly accurate but it's more than a little on the loud side.

You guys are WAY off...the quietest barrel in paintball today is the crownpoint!

I thought the J&J ceramics were the quietest until I got a Stiffi. The variable is the J&J's were used on a standard emag body and the Stiffi is used on my sluggo.

Generally the more porting it has the quieter it is. Because of the porting, usually it's less air efficient too.

The quietest battel I've owned is the BOA concealer on my 'Cocker. It has an integrated silencer :D My all american 14" is quiet, but it's also a gas hog... .693(?) and ported to all heck.

if you are going for nothing but purely how quiet the barrel is, then the quietest one I ever heard was a 22" taso (or some other crap) on a spyder. couldn't hear the thing fire from 20 feet away. of course from 20 feet away he could almost touch you with it too :D

I own both, when I use both barrels, i fine the AA just a tad bit quieter (not much, barely noticable) but I have had many many opponents come by and tell me that when I shot at them, they heard a distinct *zing* ..appently the jj ceramic was giving the balls a noticable sound as they wizzzed passed other players ...

so in conclustion, if it's quiet you want, go with the AA (or progressive due to progressive having more porting)
