View Full Version : Closed bolts don't really use the bolt?

I was at Galyans today and this guy starts talking about paintball. I start to listen snd he says closed bolts just use the bolt to get the ball in the breech and the air propels it. I don't know to much about closed bolts, but this doesn't sound right. Is this guy right.

That's the same with every bolt. Open or Closed. The bolt's purpose is to position the ball in the barrel. Then the air propels it.

Well on guns such as open-bolt blowbacks the bolt is connected to the hammer. The combined weights of the bolt, hammer, bolt/hammer pin, screw, o-rings... all are used to open the pin valve.

So the guy is partly correct about closed-bolts not having to do with opening the valve.

BTW, Galyan's rocks. They have some nice stuff. A lot of high-end equipment for many sports at good prices. It's as good a toy store as Sears Hardware and Circuit City. :D

My Galyan's doesn't sell any paintball stuff. Its illegal to sell paintball products in the suburb its in, Skokie. There used to be a Bad Boyz Toyz in the same shopping center, but it had to close.:(

Bolts don't move fast enough to help significantly contribute to the ball's speed.
