I think insert is basically the guy that can play any position, i.e., he is inserted into a position when necessary....he's all over the place. I think.....

on a slightly related note, What do they do if someone gets hurt in a game? Like, if somebody sprains an ankle really bad sliding or something, do they stop the game, or let him flop around on the ground in agony? I just thought of that, and im curious.

I would think the injured player would raise his/her hands and walk out if possible... otherwise if he/she is on teh ground and can't get up, they'd probably call a ref over and would be escorted off the field.... that's what I'd do, anyway.

Well im sure if the player was seriously hurt like fell and busted his melon open, im sure they would stop the game. But if he just fell and got a little bobo, there not going to stop the game.

an insert player can do many things. actually it can mean a few things. lets say your playing in a seven man, on this particular feild that is a little small or say has a huge distance between bunkers. your team wants to fill the front left and right, a middle 30, and a back center, left, and right. thats six, so the seventh man could sit with the back center and play until he needs to insert himself into a key bunker that has been vaccated by his team weather that teammater has pushed forward or been shot out.

also i think ive heard in five man the mid will be the insert player. lets say you have 2 fronts 2 backs and the insert(mid) the mids job would be to insert him self into the spot of any of his eliminated players. and or push forward if the games going your way.

or its just a fancy term for substitute. who knows!

Hope this was some help,
Tim Bowman

Under MOST rules, nothing.

The game continues as if nothing happened. I've got videotape from the world cup where Bill Gardner trashed his elbow on a hard landing. The game continued on. There are no rules to stop the game in the case of an injury, or in fact most anything. I'll go look it up later.

If someone gets seriously injured in a game I believe NPPL rules state that the ref can stop the game momentarily so that the injured player can be taken off of the field. Granted they are not going to do this for a bump or scrape but I would believe that if a player had to yell for the ref and was in distress they would pause the game.

If I get seriously injured (ie. Leg falls off, Eyeball pops out, have heart attack), I would just play on and hope my team still wins.

Nothing is worse than losing cuz of an injury.

But back on topic, I would think the insert player is a guy that can be called up anytime and put somewhere on the field, a guy who takes up positions that need to be filled.

But what do I know cuz I have never heard of insert player before. I be stoopud.

If you can't get up they would have to stop the game so they can see what's wrong. Say your playing with mettle bunkers and somebody trips while running and falls head first into a bunker, and then doen't move. they would have to stop the game cuz that would be serious. It could be a spinal or something. If they just played on and tried to carry him off the feild he could get spinal damage, but generaly, I would think if you can walk off or get off fast with assistance they will play on.

I've always understood the term "insert player" as a reference to us crazy middies. Because you can basicly insert us in whatever position necessary.

I looked it up.

There are only rules on how to re-start a game after it's stopped due to an "Act of God", or injury. And only the ultimate can stop a game. So, a guy has a heart attack ont he field, you need ot first go get the ultimate, then he can choose if you stop the game or not.

So, in essense, if you blow out your knee in a game, the game will continue on regardless of how much pain you're in. And since the on-field refs can not stop the game under the rules, you're SOL.

My friend was playing front and made a dash for the flag. He dove into the bunker that had the flag and knocked himself out. (About a minute or so) Next thing he knows, the game is over and he didn't get the pull. The refs didn't know he was out, they just thought he was tucking in.

I blew out my knee at practice one time. Tore some cardiledge in my knee(again). I got up and just stayed in the bunker i was in wheter i was out or not. We won that game so it wasn't so bad. Then i had a couple of my teamates to hobble me off the field. I would think most players could just finish the game. That's just my opinion though.

Ya, stopping a game would suck because if your in a good spot than have to stop and start again it would be anoying, and having to buy more paint and stuff. I think they should only stop a game if it looks serious, and I don't think people would wait for the ultimate if a guy was having a heart attack, as long as the other team wern't SOB's they would know to stop when all the refs run over to a guy thats laying motionless on the ground and yell for medics.

Insert player is another name for your mid player, or wingman. Usually 7 man or 10 man has inserts...sometimes 5.
