Bay Area AO'ers (or anyone else for that matter):

I have one tank that will need hydro testing next month and another in November. I'm looking for recomendations for local places that do a good job. The closer to San Jose, the better.

If there are none local, a good online place would be second best.

Thanks

Be careful of who hydro's your tank. I recently had my Apocalypse tank re-hydroed and the place that did it fro twenty bucks got trash in the reg. I then had to send it to Air America for service. The people there are great in all my experience with them. The serviced my reg and tank at no-charge. All it cost me was the shipping to them and back. Next time I will pay a little more to have someone who knows how to handle my air system to do the work. Oh yea, when I got my tank back and gassed it up for use before sending it back to Air America, as I turned the vale on, the system pegged at tank pressure, 4500psig, blew the macroline fitting off of the gun where it hit my ring finger on the left hand and put a hirline fracture in it. I now have a new respect for 4500psig tanks and will have only people familiar with those systems do any work on them.

The place where I got my scuba tank is in San Carlos right off the freeway near the Best Buy, Wallins Dive Center. They do testing for regular tanks. They may be able to do HP tanks but Im not sure. I have about a year or two before I need to get my tanks tested. If you go to Wallins, let me know how it went.

After contacting Diver Dans (closest to me) they quoted $40 and a 1-2 week turnaround time.

I decided to try the place recommended in Brak's post. I emailed them and got very quick replies. Geoff was very friendly. I had them do the full remove reg, test tank, replace reg, with return UPS shipping for $29.90.

I sent it out on a Thursday afternoon USPS priority, and got it back the following Wednesday (today). So for me, on the same coast, less than 1 week turnaround, with a weekend in the middle. I don't have a lot of hydro tester experience, but that seems pretty good to me.

I'd recommend them to anyone in need of hydro testing.
