Free Fade Powder Coating

I have found out a way to fade powder coating. I need 2 mag bodies. I will powder coat them for free. I need some testers. The first two people to be willing to send me there body let me know. I need some one that wants a Black to anodize blue fade and some one that wants a black to anodize red fade.
I have a pic of the black to red. This will be a test to see how durable and well they look so I am willing to do it for free. If things go bad I will strip them down and send them back to you black.

Thanks for all the interest. It really doesnt matter if it is a minimag or an automag. I wanted to try it on a stainless body. I can do red to black not just black to red to black. And the same with the blue.

If this works out I will charge an extra $5 more then the reguler colors. So that would be a wopping $20 plus shipping for a anodized and faded mag. I can't wait to see the reaction on the feild with one of those!!

Um, RedRider was only doing two fade jobs on mag bodies free, as he was testing the process, thats why the first two were free... I think hes charging 25 - 30 USD plus shipping for the fade jobs... you might want to talk to RedRider about it.

What is wrong with a green screw. My old minimag was black teflon with the two scews and the drop in that alien green. I looked awsome.

I do not have one. This is a little hobby for me right now. I do have a friend that wants to make one for me. So we will see. I need to get more pix first.
The green screw is just paint. I did that on my mag and it looked pretty cool. They scratch real easy but they are not hard to strip and do again.

How well does the powdercoat finish hold up compared to anodizing? Do you apply a clear coat over the color coat?

I can do a clear coat on the powder. I usually do not but if you ask me I will. Also on the silver I always put a clear coat on it.
Powder is strong but since it is on the metal not in it like anodizing it is a little weaker. With some care it will last a long time and since it is inexpensive you can have it redone cheaply. Since it is not so expensive you can change the color and look of your gun easily too.

In the past I have used oven cleaner to remove anodizing. I do know if you are not careful you can eat away the metal. I have never bead blasted any thing so I don't know. I do know the oven cleaner will remove it but be careful.
If you want the gun to look new and in a new color I could powder coat it for you.

Flymonkey.. That would be real hard to do. That is three colors. With powder the more colors you add the more they do not want to blend in they get grainy were they meet. It would not be a fade it would be a blend. Plus a clear coat that is four coats.

I do not like to do barrels because this is a hobby for me and would not like to be responsible for a barrel. I have to bake them and I don't know if it could mess up the special coatings that some of them have.

I called AGD a few years ago inquiring about powder coating the main body of my mag. They told me that powder coating the body would misalign the parts of my gun and i would have problems. They said the powdercoat would be to thick. Has anyone had any problems?

Matt. I own an automag so I knew about that. I do not spray in between the body and rail plus in between the rail and trigger frame. When you put it together you never know, plus is doesn't mess with anything.

wow. These r aweome. Well I have a blue mask,soon to come blue jersey and black pants. I just recently purchased a blue warp feed. I am curious what colors would look best. I have a black flame df, a quick change a friend gave me as a handle and a vertical adaptor. I have the hose running from the valve directly to the drop forward. Well I also have a single trigger benchy with greenish colored wood grips. I was curious if u would powdercoat the benchy, trigger, as well as the quick change and body rail. speed= I can do that fade. The tolerances are not changed. I do not spray in between the grip and body and on the older mags in between the rail and body too.

I now have a few new colors. I have anodize purple, metallic green and a new 3D method that looks killer. I can do the 3d on all my anodize colors to give it a lava look. The red has red bubbles with black cracks. Its hard to explain but it looks killer!!. I can also fade it!!!

First off I would like to say I AM SORRY to the guys waiting for there guns. I had too many guns and not enought time. I had to hand polish a teflon mag for two days just to get it ready. I had to send out a grip frame to be taken a part. I also had too many to do. I am sorry!!!
Right now there is a waiting list of about a week. For the people that or just e-mailing me know. Not the ones I already have. Those will be out Monday at the Latest. Again I am sorry but not having more then 24 hours in one day and only sleeping 4 hours sucks!!!

Just want to share my experiences about getting my automag body powdercoated at a local store in response to a post a while back. I live in Irvine, CA. I read about powdercoating in a different forum, so I pull out my yellow pages to look up some powdercoating shops in the area, and there are a couple in the area in the Fontain Valley area, so I drive out there and have a couple stores take a look at the body to see if they could do it. The first store I went to wanted $35 for a basic blue powdercoat, and $10 extra if I wanted an metallic color. I figured that was an ok price, so i give him my body and pick it up in three days. When I got it back, I couldn't believe what I saw. My automag body looked like a piece of ****, literally. The surface of my body looked wrinkled and ribbed, its not something i can really describe, but trust me it looked hideous. The store owner wasn't in that day(his wife was and she didn't know anything about why it came out like this) so I decided to try another powdercoat shop in the area. Then I am told by the second owner that the first owner didn't properly clean the surface before powdercoating it, thats why the surface came out 'wrinkled'. So I decide let this second guy have a crack at it. He charged $10 for stripping off the first coat, then another $35 for the job itself. I got it back in roughly a week, and this time it looked fine, just like the way a stock AGD Black Teflon mainbody would look like, but instead, I spent 35+10+35 to make my grey body look black, not the mention the time waste driving back and forth. For that amount of money I could've easily purchased another used body. So I just wanted to share this with everyone who might be thinking about taking their paintball parts to just any local powdercoat store in their area, I highly recommend against it. I am getting my used RT from EBAY in a couple of days, and I am expecting to be scratched at least in some places. I am not trying to pitch sale for Redrider, just judging from the pictures posted in this thread, I am going to send him my RT as soon as I can. First off, he owns a paintgun, so he understands that powdercoat is actually a pretty 'thick' coating that may interfere with tolerances (ie getting the mainbody and rail to fit properly) if the powdercoat is not done correctly, it may cause leaks and such. Second, as far as I know, no one out there even knows how to do a fade powdercoat other than him. And finally, his prices seem very reasonable. My advice to everyone is to please take the time to read the 6 pages of posts under this thread, so you don't flood Redrider with the same questions about price/color that might have been answered elsewhere in the post. Poor guy probably has a backlog of jobs well into next year, and at $25 for a mainbody fade, he is doing a HUGE favor for us AO members by offering his services. :cool:

I have been a little busy over here. I got engaged on Monday. Powder coated my brains out Tuesday. Then I had to work a double shift on Wednesday/Thursday so I could go to the tech class and tour. What's airbrush powdercoating?

Air brush powder coating is what Eric does. He sprays a design down then sprays clear powder over it to seal it in. He does awesome work. It would be hard to match his work plus it is clear coated with powder for tuffness.

You can still see the scales, it looks like black spots on the marker. please disreguard the huge 114 CU scuba tank on the marker!! lol...The marker is awesome with this new paint job. Now if I caould just get it to stop shooting in full auto, I would be happy!
