Just wondering if anyone else in this forum has seen the movie Akira? It's one of my favorites, any opinions?

Love it.

As a side note, I'm going to Hollywood for the national premiere of Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust this Friday.

I think they've already played the film throughout the states at various theatres, but this is the official opening of it.

Should be cool!

I saw the 2001 Pioneer release of Akira on DVD, and those @%*&$#'s RETRANSLATED THE SCRIPT. I could'nt even finish it; it was like watching Sesame Street.

The original made me want to start a biker gang when I was in 6th grade, build backpack lasers... what a great film

Actually - I have the Special Edition DVD and it has the orignal dub along with the english one. That way you can watch it as it was meant to be, but the film and sound are cleaned up to removed the scratches and dirt that was built up on the original.

One hell of a flick. I still think the moment where Tetsuo stops the tank shell coming toward him is the COOLEST.

Yeah, the new dub on the DVD sucks, get the old VHS version, it's not so pretty, but sounds way better.

Tbone: there are two English Dubs, the SE DVD has the Bad one, the English Dub on the old VHS version is far better.
