View Full Version : Y wait for a Y-Grip? Get one now!

The oft rumored, rarely seen Y-Grip is finally a reality!

Fresh off the production line, they're available for purchase here (http://store.airgun.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=17&Product_ID=412&CATID=5).

I used one this past weekend and it worked great and was super comfy. Only took a couple games to get used to it. After that, it was smooth sailing. :)

For those who are new around here or don't know what the Y-Grip is all about, here's a short blurb from the online store:

"Ever wonder why your gripframe looks like one you could put on an actual firearm?

We did.

While pistol-esque gripframes are ergonomically correct for real guns, they are not for paintball. Why? Because many players use short, compact gun/bottle setups. With this sort of setup, a pistol type grip makes you cock your hand sharply forward at an unnatural angle, causing stress upon your wrist and tendons. With the Y-Grip, your hand and forearm are in a straight line...no more stress on your wrist!"

I am not sure how well this would work with a double. Give a 90 deg frame a try before you buy one. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO 45's AGAIN!!!!!!!

Gunga, how does that feel with a warp? I am very interested if that is more comfortable for snapping out the left side with a warp (I'm right handed). I KNOW it's good for people who don't use warp, but I need to know how well they work WITH warp.

After a couple games, I got used to the new position of my hand/wrist. The 'it feels kinda wierd' thing was a factor while I wasn't playing and trying the thing out. But once I was playing, I didn't even think about it...the fact that I was using something new didn't even enter my mind. Just ripped away on it like I used to with the Intelliframe. I didn't notice any change in my ROF...but then I don't tend to blast away as fast as I can, seeing as how I don't have a paint sponsor. :p

Going from an Intelliframe to a Y-Grip didn't affect my play at all, whether I was shooting normally or tilting the gun to shoot off to the left (I'm right handed). Still shot plenty of people dead. :D If you notice from my pics, my hopper is drilled for the warp hose. Because of this, I had to drill a hole in my warp bracket (the end that connects to the grip) so it would come out at a 90 degree angle from the centerline of my gun. The reason I did that was because I didn't want to go through the trouble of buying new shells and drilling them out. :)

Considering you have used it quite a bit, I hope you don't mind me asking a question. How is the overall feel? That is, do you find less tension in your forearm/wrist, and less fatigue?

Lately, playing with my stock-framed Mag is a very painful experience. After a few hundred rounds, I can barely hold my marker. I am seriously considering buying one as a result.

Also, and unfortunately, I haven't experienced an I-Frame
trigger, so I can't go off of that as far as your description of the similarity. Would I notice an easier pull, overall, as compared to stock (I don't expect much). I know the blade would give more leverage, and I have heard they are "nicer," but that could mean lots of things.

Sorry for the banal question. I am really curious, though.

$5 more than the I-frame and you guys are stuck on the price?

As soon as I finish moving and get another job, I'm going to get one... (assuming they do more than 1 run)

*edit- Does anyone know if these grip panels will fit/look good if you turn them backwards?

No 120 is not bad for a gripframe.

Clamshell frames are 160, just for the gripframe, no lcd screen or wires. Just the frame, after you get everything its about 250 dollars.

Yeah, I noticed a lot less tension in my wrist as compared to the Intelliframe. With the stock single trigger frame, there's even more tension (as compared to the Y Grip) due to the lesser amount of leverage the shorter trigger gives you. Given your problem, perhaps a ULE trigger would help you out too, assuming everything goes well with it's development. If you don't know what the ULE trigger is, check out this thread (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=80036&highlight=trigger). Oh..and this one (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=87137&highlight=trigger) too.

Most of my fatigue during the time I used it was my bicep from lugging my gun around the whole park. :) It was a big game so the whole field was open. Lots 'o walkin!

How do drop forwards work with y-frames? They must drop waaayyyy forward. Imagine a z-grip with a dead-on drop!!!! . So anyways, my question is will a drop work on a y-frame? And, do you think it will hit the gas-thru if I get a mini foregrip? (like CP mini gas-thru). By the way, it will be used on a 68 classic.

The only thing I can say is that you need to set your bottle up properly with your drop forward. And I'll explain why.

I picked up an IR3 when they came out(dirty dirty object) at a WDP booth. The grip felt weird yes but good. I asked them to put an air system with bottle on the gun and when this was done my wrist/forearm was still crooked as it had to bend round a chuggin great angel air. So although these grips work really well you must be aware of the tank.

I saw a company in PGI once that do a drop forward that off-sets the air system to the left or the right which would sort this out a treat. Unfortunately I do not have the companies name.

Let me know if you find one! :D

I few comments on 90 degree frames. Here is a pic of my current shocker...

http://forums.shockerowners.com/files/dsc01511.jpg

This is how the bottom is setup... There is a mac dev rail connect to a benchmark on/off. I dont have a problem with the tank valve or if there were a reg there that would cause me to bend my wrist around it, however if I had something with a monster sized reg, angel air, it would be an issue.

Guys that are using smalled sized regs, flatline, should have no problem with this setup, just use a rail or a really small drop, stock 3k flatline, eclipse, or nac dev rail.

all I can say is that useing a 90 degree frame on a heavy setup; shocker, 20oz co2, rico full of paint, my wrist does not hurt after playing all day. I really think these Y's are going to be great for all styles of play. Just watch your drop forward to forgrip/gas through space.

Last comment, these kinds of frames are great for the single trigger guys! You only need to use one finger on the very bottom of the frame. You palm kind of holds the bottome of the frame making your are and wrist kind of vertical. If requested, I will put up some pics of how you hold the frame versus a 45.

The pull is like the pull on an autococker. You have to pull all the way back and let it all the way out and its a little too long of a pull to successfully walk.

So unless you have very fast and very strong fingers, then no, you can't walk them...:(

As pictured, not very comfy--the gauges and fill nipple are in the way. After taking that picture, I replaced that with a CP rail and an adjustable WorrGas tank, and that friggin' rocks.

The foregrip thing is entirely personal preference--I just like that foregrip, and it happens to come with a built-in extender. Looks to me like you can get a normal one in there just fine.

UPS is killing me. I checked the tracking report, and found that my fram had arrived at the local UPS processing facility. I call to see if I may pick it up at the service desk. I am told "we won't be opening those trucks until after seven, and we close at eight. You will get it Monday."

I check the status, only to find that the package has been removed and scanned, and is ready to be placed on a truck. They scanned it at six-thirty. So, unless I can pick it up on a Saturday, I have to sit here waiting to get the frame while it sits behind the wall of a building literally five minutes from my house. You thought Tantalus had it badly...

BTW, does anybody know if they are open for pickups on Sat? I know they have deliveries on Saturday at special request.

I don't mind the appearance of the frames, and since it is a first production run, I would be less concerned about aesthetics and more about the frames functioning properly at this point.

However, they are a tad plain looking, I believe the appearance of the frames could be improved by milling "dents" in the back of the frame, much like those currently on the Intelliframe. They would certainly make the frame look more interesting.

Also agreed. All AGD needs now is a X frame. Then you could choose from the X,Y,Z frames!!!!!! lol

I shot the Y grip at the IAO, and it was great. I personally think its at a perfect angle, but some could disagree. Too bad i didnt have enough money to buy one.:(

If I got the Y-Grip, do you think it should work with my KAPP drop? If not I'm either going to get a Intelliframe of DYE 45 frame.

Which KAPP drop do you have? they make several?
I use the medium shocktech drop, and I had to add a few washers between the frame and the drop in order for it to clear my foregrip.

Ya Y-Grip rules. I shot Gunga's like 2 weeks ago at Badlands. It was super comfortable. I hate the Z but loved the Y they are no comparison.

Just thought everyone would like to see pics of a Y-grip with WarpFeed.

Needs work. I'm taking out the stab and ASA altogether. Going to get a real warp adapter. Going to be putting in either:
a) new shocktech drop with a long macro/SS line
b) old PMI drop with long SS line

Definitely replacing the drop I have once I get to the PBall store. Just temporarily there. :D And waiting on my freak system. ;)

Welp, I should be there tomorrow (Sun 7-26) and you can try it out if you're there. I'll also be sporting a ULE trigger. :)

I forgot to tell all you guys that I got a y-grip! I had to get nickel though because black was out of stock. I fit a 32 degrees stickie grip on it!!! It's sweet because the grip is clear and you can see through the grip. All you have to do to get it to fit, is cut the front a little where the ridges are. Cut a slit big enough for the trigger guard to go in the grip. Maybe I'll get pics soon.

Good thing you worked, 'cause you didn't miss much. I got one game in, then went to BS with the AGD Kids who were practicing there.

Then the Big Man Upstairs opened the floodgates. So much rain/lightning/thunder that they closed down early.

It's a new upgrade (not yet available - maybe in a few weeks) for X-Valves which will reduce the trigger pull weight by about 2/3. So basically, near elecro-light trigger...but without batteries or electronics. :)

Do a search for posts containing the word 'trigger' authored by 'AGD' and a bunch of threads on the subject will come up.

Got pics? I just don't like the idea of not having stickies (it may not be a big deal). I'm interested in seeing this though.

Hey...I got my y-grip and love it...its really great. I broke my right wrist a few years back and even though the doctors say its straight my wrist hurts. This really doesn't hurt my wrist at all and love it alot. Thank you AGD for making such a great product once again.

hey this has probably already been posted but i dont hve much time right now - whats the ballpark price for a chrome y- grip?

Nomad

Just get the nickel polished one. The finish is almost the same.

Or if it bothers you that much, but the black one and send it to a plating shop to have it stripped and chrome plated.

With 3 day air shipping my nickel (basically same as chrome) was $128.

Man this frame is great too! All I need now is a new drop and it will be perfect.:D

this frame seems to be the z grip for people who cant fit z grips on their guns due to the fact that it hits their forgrip/front reg/gas thru/ect.

I dont really like it, but maybe if I had a mag, I'de buy one just to see if it was my style.
