well, I finally decided I needed somewhere to shoot around the house. After buying a bunch of T-balls at IAO and getting my hands on some other stuff, I can finally run my own @ home tests as opposed to before when I had to drive an hour to petty's, lol.

All I need now is a chrono. lol

this took me about $50 and 2hours to build and it works like a charm, I tested it with old paint left over from the austin meet a month ago(actually it was miscue's humid pod paint, lol - thanks brian!)

I expected a bunch of breaks since the paint was in very poor condition but my trap actually caught most of it and only broke about 2-3balls.

I'm sure it'll work perfect with the t-balls.

I ran outta netting but before I run some serious speed tests, I'm going to wrap the sides and top in the same netting, along with making the front bottm lip a few inches higher.

it can also be quickly torn down for storage and brought up again for testing in about 1min.

sadly I can only shoot from approx 80ft away.

Nice, much more polished than what I do. I use trash cans, old magazines, trash bags and the bathtub. I have to wear earplugs because of the echo in the bathroom. It's really getto, but it works.

Do you have any worries about the noise? Looks like you have it set up in your backyard.

i'm gonna get a 50 gallon drum to cut a hole in soon... and then shoot into the hole (it'll be a big hole) and i'll leave a few inches at the bottom as a paint resivoir

ps: can you give me a list of what you used to build that thing? i think me and my dad are gonna make a trip to the home depot soon :)

just so you know those T-Balls pack quite a punch. I put a hole through a blanket in my dorm room. Granted i was only like three feet away, but it still left a perfect .68 hole.

no noise worries, as long as I shoot during the day, lol.

I just used 1/2"pvc(bout 16 5'ers had less than 1 piece left), a lot of connections(I cut the support pieces in the middle and reconnected them with extension pieces so that I can dissconnect from there, swing the pvc inward as it colapses on itself, all other connections are glued or ziptied) and heavy-duty outdoor shade fabric as netting.

I know the T-balls are worse than paintballs :), I'm very confident in this though, especially after seeing the rufus trap.

Alabamaman and I shot those T-Balls in our rooms at school and they bounced off every wall about 5 times. Then we got the bright idea to hold sweatshirts in front of ourselves and shoot each other with the T-Balls to see what it felt like. College students at their finest.

looks like some pretty flimsy pvc.....1/2 inch?

So those t-balls really pack a punch. So we cant shoot each other with them.

I'm guessing you dont live in an area where dumping bucket loads of paint into the trees is an option. Nature built my shooting range. :D

That looks quite nice.

What kind of netting is that? Is it easy to clean?

Right now, I am using the side of my son's treefort. After making sure it is empty of course!:)

1/2" should be good enough, its not like you'd be swinging on it, but if you want to stiffen it up a bit, you could always either buy larger, or reinforce it with dowel rods inside the pvc

A T-ball is a rubber paintball made by Rufus Dawg. They are sold on www.xpaintball.com.

yeah the mention of t-balls reminded me of my project about 3 months ago. I was bored so i set up some bunkers(stacked rubbermaid bins, screens, and a matress) in my basement. I had some big bunkers and even a snake. I bought some t-balls and turned my velocity way down (to like 140) and skirmished my neighbor and his mag. Worked pretty well but i had to take it all down a while ago (my cat pissed on a bunker and my mom freaked out).

Are the T-Balls solid rubber? I am picturing the little rubber "bouncy balls" I used to play with as a kid. What happens if you chop one?

You've inspired me! I'm gonna build my own, now... Just 'cause!:p

its very hard to chop one. I guess you could with a lvl 7 mag... it will just chop the rubber

You guys shot your paintball guns in your rooms?!?!?!?!?! You're lucky I'm not an RA anymore... I'd have had to kick your... I mean "document the situation." Good thing there aren't going to be any paintball guns in the hall next year, solves that problem.

The whole point to this is so I can catch and find my t-balls = no more wasted paint on test firing.

Not too shabby. I have something very similar but MUCH smaller in my basement that I can shoot nylon balls into. My first attempt put a hole in the tarp really quick:) I can only get about 20ft away (small basement, ask Nerobro) but it let's me chrono my guns. I would do something outside, but in my town that can land me in jail.

Would chrony readings be different between t-balls and regular Paintballs because of their increased weight? (do they weigh more?  )

Havoc_online
07-30-2003, 01:54 PM
they weigh the same, however you cannot chrono with T-balls (nylon yes, T-no) cause you'll get readings all over the place due to the imperfections in size and shape.

I'm sure you could make something similar to this, which would be small enough to throw on a trash barrel or something..

where did you get nylon balls? how much do they cost?

Muzikman
07-30-2003, 06:39 PM
I will not say where I got the balls, cause in the wrong hands they can be VERY dangerous. I will say that if you look around, you can find them. They are not cheap at about $.50 per ball, but they get cheaping in large quanities.

Man, I could use something like that. Gotta call the field here two weeks in advance just to schedule a game, so theres no chance to go fiddle around with my gun.
BTW, anyone know what the heck these are and why they cost 160 bucks? Lazerballs (http://www.888paintball.com/product.asp?plid=NEW&icid=&scid=&csid=902806161290359514383711050459386780223801789 92380&code=36%2D1%2DLZR+BALLS+500CT)
