He's protestant and I want him to become a catholic tank. (j/k)

I have a 850psi output tank and I read somewhere that there is way to make the newer versions like mine put out 450psi, however I could never get anyone to tell me how to do it. Some people say you have to replace some parts while others say you simply have to remove some parts. Does any one know if this is really possible and if so how should I go about doing it?

André

don't do it yourself, PMI never told the public beacause it can be potentially hazardous if not done correctly

Just an FYI- you don't want a tank that puts out less than 650 on a mag.

dayspring is absolutely right

I think he has a Bushmaster. I'm not familiar with them, but maybe they take a lower pressure tank.

The PMI output can be lowered by using a lilghter spring in the regulator spring pack.

He's not rockin a mag, he's got a BKO.. no idea what pressure it likes, but it is possible to change the output of your tank- just involves removing a shim and replacing a spring- don't do it yourself, let a shop do it though.

even on a gun that takes 200psi and can use a 450psi output tank, i've yet to see the advantage of using a 450psi output. theres certainly no better efficiency...hmmm...maybe someone can enlighten me

Damn, better efficiency is one of the things I was looking to achieve with this conversion. Someone at my field told me that my efficiency would go way up if I had a 450psi output instead of 850psi since my gun needs between 250-350psi to operate. So tank output has NOTHING to do with efficiency?

It wont do a damn thing to your efficiency. Your just running a lower pressure into your gun. Your gun is still using up the same amount of gas when fired as it would when using a tank with a output of 850 psi. The only reason why they have lower pressure tanks is so you dont overpressure your reg, and it could make your gun a little more stable because your reg wont have to work so hard.

I don't know how many shots you can get out of 400 psi, but you will get more shots out of your tank because you will be able to shot it down to 450psi instead of it stopping a 850psi...

JAM if an 850psi preset tank (Output) has 600psi left in the tank, it will put out 600psi

Yes, that's correct however at that point the reg starts to go a little crazy since it ir set to take a 850psi input

At that point the gun gets a little inconsistent and if I start shooting fast, velocity will drop quite a bit. I'm not sure how regs really work but I'm guessing since it is a mechanical device with springs, ports, etc, it is physically set to receive a certain amount of air at a realively constant flow. When the amount of air drops bellow what it was set to receive, the parts don't move and "re-regulate" so your putting air at a lower pressure into a space (chambers and inner paths) that are physically arranged in a way that was adequate for a higher input. Than again I might be wrong...

I would tell you to call PMI. BUT there customer service is horrible.. my suggestion is change from the stock reg on your BKO to a mac-dev or mini sidewinder. Makes life easier.
