View Full Version : Just a peek of my custom emag grips

I made these from recycled circuit boards from old CD-ROM drives. I cut them out with a jig saw, and then hand finished them. They turned out very well.
Next they go off for a topping of clear resin. They will have a nice grip to them after that; right now they are just flat.
I wanted something that would contrast the organic look of the Chord V2 body and the milling that I am having done to the rest of the gun. These will also match the anno job ;)

Another picture, just so you can see they are exactly the same as the stock rubber grips.

And a little personal touch; the chip in the bottom right hand corner of the right hand side grip has my name on it :D

He's planning on coating it in smooth resin. The circuit boards are just a 'backdrop' of sorts.

Yeah...what he said!
I am getting them covered with clear resin; they will be just like any rounded 45 grip, you will just be able to see through the resin.
sounds good to me :) I never got to that point I just wanted to see how they would look hehe

If you were wearing gloves I don't think they would be too uncomfortable before you get the coating.
I might just have to copy this idea. Hope nobody's patented it. ;)

Well, unfortunately I will not make them for sale. I guess people like them; I've gotten 2 emails and 2 IMs about them. They are too time consuming as I have to do them by hand. It wouldn't be worth my time making them...sorry! I will be more than happy to help instruct you on how to make your own pair if you wish; I even have a set of rubber grips that can be used as a template.
I already have one of the green emag LED displays courtesy of Have Blue. The gun will be a matte silver to green fade, thus the reason for the green board and display.
I don't have a complete emag to use these on; just some various parts.
The resin coat is going to be done by somebody you all know and love!

I made a set for my cocker, then put them on my GZ when I got that. Never liked how they felt so I gave them to a friend. He tried to darken them with RIT dye and turned them completely black. So now they're gone. :(
I used a two part resin mad eby a company called EviroTex. Look them up online. You should be able to find the stuff at a local hobby or craft store. It's used as a super thick coating for wood surfaces.
I just poured it on top of the grips and cut them out after it cured. To get the nice rounded feel I suggest making a rounded mold to pour the resin in then place the boards on top. This is how I'm going to do it if I make another set.

They will be going into a mold. I'm not doing the resin; I like working with solids personally.

;) But that type of grip has already been made. As I think was pointed out earlier, I think Doc made at least one pair like that quite a while ago.....
But yes, it is an interesting theme.

Old thread indeed!
Actually, the guy that I sent the grips to refuses to email me back.....*cries* That was 5 months ago or so. I think they are gone for good.
Heather- if you are reading this and know how to get in touch with Ron, let me know. I've emailed him 3-4 times with no results....I might just have to buy some grips off of you instead.
