does anyone else think it would be a good idea to make a carbon fiber y frame?

everyone likes metal frames for some reason... I don't think it'd sell very well.

it is a shame that your finishing options are pretty much limited to paint, i did manage to chrome a stock frame but by the time i was finished with it the weight of the plating pretty much negated the benifit of useing carbon fiber to begin with.

I'm all for cf frames... but most of the paintball public isn't

They break easy.

I cant count how many I've seen break on cockers.

Yeah but Miatas only weigh 5 pounds anyway. I can juggle them for crying out loud. While their on fire. With swords sticking out everywhere. I like the cf frames better anyway. Thats why I bought one of the old RT Pros instead of the fancy new ones with intelliframes. Wish I could get a 45 though.

... 5 pounds? are you saying it's not a feat to be able to lift a small car with carbon fiber grip frames!? dude, you're crazy.

That's why they used it... If the cf grip broke, then there wouldn't be any big loss then would there? :p

Youre right, 5 pounds was crazy. I forgot about all the chains holding the car up. Ill give it 20 pounds :D

In case your forgot, in the early days the autococker and automag shared the same carbon fiber grip frame. There is even a post somewhere about that.

Here it is ... short and sweet ... http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29375&highlight=autococker+grip+frame+automag

Actually you even have a quote in it :)

there are alot of strength and cost effecting variables in carbon fiber injection molding. its not unreasonable to consider that even if mag and cocker cf grip frames came from the same company they might have drastic differences, most likely being the regrind tolerances and fill percentages.
ive never heard of an agd cf grip frame failing, lord knows ive abused mine more than it deserves and it still works great.
its just a shame they arent popular enough to inspire agd to order a run of y style frames.

The problem with the paintball industry carbon fiber is its ugly...

if they started to use carbon fiber layering methods from the Aftermarket car scene they would look much nicer.

like so... a carbon OEM hood

Close up on layering (http://www.customcougars.com/exterior/images/OEMCarbonHood09.jpg)

I can understand that for barrels and round/flat objects, but it'd be near impossible for something like a grip frame... it has too many complexities.
