View Full Version : How to make a Retro LESS reactive?

I just got a new-to-me Retro mag. I put in a LX kit (#2 carrier, 2 shims, med spring), screwed in my Crossfire 68/30 stub, and messed with the speed until it would shoot.

And shoot it does!

I have a very hard time shooting just one shot. It wants to go into runaway. I have not chronied it yet, but from shooting 50 or so paintballs in the backyard, I don't even think it's even shooting at 280fps yet and it's got mad runaway.

I know this can be adjusted by the tank output pressure, but I don't have an adjustable tank. Is there anyway I can do some home-mod that would stop the runaway? Short spring?

I also know about the ULT, but it does not have the 2 o-ring on/off dealy to run one.

You could try a .005" longer on/off pin than the one you have.

You could also buy the ULTrigger. I happen to like the very reactive trigger and tried to get a ULT equpiied Xvalve to rapidfire. Not a chance it seems, the thing feels like the automag valve. Very soft and almost no reactivity.

After thinking about it, I think I will try another on/off pin. I have an E-Mag, and that same tank does not make it go runaway inRT mode. I'll measure both with my calipers and see if they are diff lenghts.

Like I said, I don't think the ULT will work with this valve b/c it one has the 1 o-ring spot.

You'll get even more runaway.

Emag- .712/.725 (depending on serial #)
RT Pro- .765
ReTro- .750

You want a longer pin than what you have (but not by much)

Shoot. I never even got to try it. I was falling asleep from starting work at 4am today. Hummm..

Longer on/off pin, and try tightening your field strip screw with a wrench and see if that helps any.
