I normally buy from my local shop - for one you are making a contact that may be of value to you later (like when you want sponsors, need help, etc). Most of the time, once you are in decent with a shop, you will get good prices, I seldom pay more for things from my shop than I would online, and often pay less. While I respect the online retailers (and do use them from time to time when my shop can't get me something I want) even them I find it better to call, talk to a person for awhile, and order what you need. If you have a problem, need help figuring something out, etc. your local shop is more likely to help you.

You will do better in life (in general) by making human contact, in person, or on the phone. Build a relationship there. Show it matters to you, use the persons name, etc. Just general advice.
