The default insert are freak ones. There are thousands of kits, they are given away, you can buy individual sizes and can get them new from Empire. Bizerk, equation or any of the others may be better designs, better quality or better overall, but like cocker threads, have become defacto standard.

    Anyone prefer Simon's barrel back kit>> 0.675, 0.680, 0.685. and 0.690?
Or do you prefer Freak inserts, if so which kit, standard length or the XL?

I prefer my Freak XL inserts, I have had the best accuracy and consistency with them overall, and I also have a set of the standard length stainless freak inserts which have been great, I could go either way and be happy.

The sized barrel backs and the XL inserts make the most sense, the 8 inch control bore is right in the Mags sweet spot..

Been using the Stella sized backs since he came out with them.

My only complaint has always been its only every other .005 , nothing in between .685 and .690.

I can see it would make a much bigger barrel kit doing .687 and maybe harder to sell whole kits, but in sunny central Florida .687 would be the most used IMHO.

I've had the full 5" freak set since it was released, and I think I have always used the .684-.689 inserts here in south Louisiana.

Here's to hoping Luke is making freak XL backs that fit regular freak tips.

I love my redz barrel kit, shame that their smallest size is .687, among the pump community in socal, I'd say a majority of them love the PumpPB(lapco) Tightstick .681 I belive

Love my stella kit. Have a complete back set with inserts. When paint runs weird, i will go inserts, otherwise i will go to whatever size i need(680, 685 or 690).
