    Another Mag Efficiency Theroy

I'm still new to the sport and to Mags, but I think this might work. The original lvl 5 mags had smaller air chambers. AGD made them bigger in later models to cute down on ball breakage. So, since the lvl 10 is now out and the ball breakage is almost at 0% can't we make the air chambers smaller, even samller than the lvl 5 Mags? If we did this wouldn't we get better efficiency?

If the air chambers were smaller then we would have to increase the pressure entering the dump chamber.

So this has its pro and con. We would get better efficiency. However, we wouldn't be able to shot as low into the tank as we currently do.

To explain, currently a mag will stop firing at ~400 psi (or at least mine does, even with LX). So, we reduce the chamber and increase pressure therefore the marker would stop firing at some pressure above 400 psi.

So, yes in the "new workable pressure range" the marker would have better efficiency but it would stop firing sooner. And depending on the limiting pressure the marker in the long run might actually fire fewer shots per fill.

Someone with better math skills than I should look into finding the optimum pressure and chamber size for the absolute max shots for some tank size.

I think it should be investigated. Its been discussed before. It is quite possible that the efficiency gained, would outweigh the loss of usable pressure from the bottle.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

Actually, you might not have to increase the chamber pressure. With the level 10 bolt, there is a high residual pressure. Also, the paintball is long gone before the chamber can finish dumping the air. It is quite possible that you would not have to increase the pressure, or only have to increase it slightly. It is definitely worth a try.

BTW, I verified the above with Tom at an AO day.

I don't have the resources or money to look in to into the idea. Has AGD tried the idea on a prototype marker?

            This might work.

An easy way to test this would be to make a insert that goes in the dump chamber and decreses is air capacity. Kinda like putting a brick in your toilet's water tank to make it use less water.

Tom has steadfastly refused to do this after repeated questioning at tech classes, chats, etc. Because the mag is already considered "high pressure" he won't increase the chamber pressure more making the "perception" worse among the uninformed.

This is a bummer as his belief is that to achieve true HE paintball guns much higher pressure is needed.

Well what if he just sold a simple "high efficiency" kit. Essentially it would just show how to get the dump chamber open, then include some small shims for an adjustable chamber size, and some good loctite to seal the dump chamber back on with. Don't make it standard, make it an option ONLY upgrade.
