yeah its grey right now and i want it shiny! but windex to clean it? that sounds good.

i used windex on my old nickel shocker and it was BLING BLINGIN'

The best way is to use polishing lathe, but I'm guessing you don't have one. I use a bench grinder. Start with a wire wheel to remove the grey finish, then a buffing wheel with different grades of polishing compound.
If you can't gain access to any type of machinery you can use sandpaper, start at 150 grit and work your way up to 2000 grit.

Here is what I did with mine. First of all, if you have no patience, stop now.

Start out with 150 grain sand paper. Under warm running water (warm so you can tolerate it for a while) slowly and gently sand away the gray coating. Like I said, it takes a while and you have to have patience. DON'T PUSH TOO HARD!!! You will scratch too deeply. After you have the gray off, move up in grain until you reach the max that you can get. I went all the way to 2000 grain. Go grain by grain if you can. Like I said, be gentle with the sand paper because the harder you push, the deeper the grain bites in. The water flowing over helps wash away the dust and aids in the polishing. When you get to 2000 grain you will see just the slightest of small scratches in the metal. After 2000 grain, I used a fine polishing compound like Mothers Mag Polish, Body Scrub, paint and plastic polish, or Jewelers Rouge for taking out the fine scratches. Mine shines almost as much as my chrome barrel. YOU MUCH HAVE PATIENCE AND GO SLOW!!!

I'll tell you what I just did in about an hour.

I went from the stock grey to almost a mirror finish at 1500grit.

I started with 215 and got all the grey off in about 30seconds. I wrapped the sandpaper around the body and twisted, that works very well.

After 215 I went straight up to 600. This took out all the imperfections that the 215 caused and gave it a nice shine. This took maybe 30 min under running water.

After the 600 I went to 1500. Polished it real nice. I then gave it some mothers polishing compound and she was done!

One my other mag, I went from 400,600,800,1000,1500,2000 and that took a lot longer and it came out the same as this one. I plan on searching for 3000grit and getting the body to a mirror, we'll see how that goes...

I did mine a few weeks ago. but i had to sand like a mad cow, the dink i bought it off of had a sharkgill sight rail with a set screw to keep it on (don't know if it really was for a mag) and it left a real nice mark on the top of the mainbody, so i had to sand,sand,sand till that went away.
I used 300grit
then 400
then 600
then 800
then 1000
then 1200

I'd do it at work, when i had nothing to do. A guy i work with gave me some super-fine (he called it 0000 gauge) steel wool he uses on furniture. That really helped polishing it after the 1200grit.
I just wrapped it around the body and twisted. Got rid of all the tiny scrathes the sandpaper left.

I have to get a dremel and use some buffing compound to make it REALLY shine, but its really smooth and shiny as is.

I also did my body rail and vertical bottle adapter, but the aluminum is a bit more dull. Oh well, it still looks great in my eyes.
Took alot of elbow grease and patience. I thought it was hopeless at first, but it takes some work.
I had a huge blister on my thumb from the body rail. Damn anondizing!!!
