Thank you, but I am NOT throwing in the towel...

    ... At least, not yet.

Yes, I'm grumpy, fed up, sick of it all and generally pissed off at the moment, But for the time being, I have no plans to leave, either the store or the sport. Cut down, yes, dabble in other things, almost certainly. But my Gear Store is still open, and I'm working on new products even now.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. I really had no idea my little rant would get the attention and response it did.

However, in the other thread, someone posted another of my sticking points- some of you haven't gotten your 15-degree ASAs (or a refund, in some cases.) I was planning on making an announcement anyway, so here it is.

Oddly enough, just today (Thursday) I finally got in a boxful of black-annoed 15-degree ASAs. The company that made them for me was supposed to have drop-shipped them, as they were going to start carrying some of my products, making, selling and shipping direct from their location. I had more than a few ASA orders they were supposed to have covered directly- I forwarded the info to them, they were supposed to take care of it, I didn't have to worry about it afterward.

I didn't even know anything was wrong until I started getting "where's my part?" messages, and eventually found out the shop was... well, not exactly on the ball, so to speak.

I made up more on my own to fill some orders, refunded others. But I believe there's still a few that haven't gotten either. If you're one of them, please drop me an E-mail (doc at docsmachine dot com, of course) with "mag asa" or "15 degree asa" in the subject line, and any relevant info I'd need (name, mailing address, whether you want the ASA or a refund, and how much, etc.)

I'll be checking records, so no free goodies for you clever guys.

The rest will go in the store. No more waiting!

Again, thank you for all the responses. For those worried, I don't plan on stopping TWB anytime soon. That's still one thing I enjoy (probably because it's not a "job", yet...) I don't know what I'll do with it if I do decide to leave the sport entirely... maybe the crew would go do something else along with me. I don't know. But for the time being, they're here to stay, and thanks for reading!

    Doc.

Well, your last rant may have gotten you some business, because now I'm checking out your gear store...Maybe sellers should rant more often? Hope you don't quit paintball completely if you find a job.

I guess it's better to hear it right from you, and not listening to people's assumptions. Doc Nickel to stay forever.

Glad to hear you're not going.

But I have to wonder if some lack of business sense isn't hurting your outlook.

If you don't like the production work, why are you doing it? Tom Kaye seems to have suffered the same problems.

You have to learn to delegate and let go. Once you've designed a part/product/conversion, package up the instructions and get someone else to do the drudgery of making and selling them.

Then, concentrate of the things you DO enjoy doing.

But, DON'T do what Tom did. A business should not let one aspect stagnate while it pursues other activities (FN303) or the owner decides to do something fun for a while (off to dig up bones).

Because in either case, the business just backs up and makes it more painful and annoying than when you left for your break.

I'd like to echo this sentiment, and not just for you, Doc, but for every dealer, vendor, manufacturer out there who produces awe-inspiring, functional works of art that make the game enjoyable and truly unique.

I started playing over 15 years ago, and traded in my first gen PMI-3 for an Automag about 10 years ago (after my all-Benjamin Sheridan team cruised through a 15-man tourney until getting waxed by an all-Mag team in the finals ). I still shoot a mech Mag to this day - in fact, I still have that very same 10 year old Mag valve, original o-rings and all, and it works beautifully.

The only reason I'm still interested in the game - not "the sport" - but the game of paintball is because of the creations and inventions of you Doc, along with countless other custom shops such as Palmers, Punishers, White Wolf, Deadlywind, Rogue, Logic, etc. I can't say that I've purchased something from everyone, but all those who I have dealt with have produced awesome products that still give me that warm, fuzzy feeling when I wake up at 5:00am on a Sunday, lace up the cleats and drive two hours to God-knows-where on an empty stomach just to sling some paint, probably complaining about it the whole trip, too.

The game is nothing without the competition from the manufacturers and customizers, regardless if your perception is that things are better or worse in 2005 than they were in 1995 or even 1985. Without the Docs, Glenns, Toms, Buds, etc ... we'd all still be tramping around the woods in shop glasses shooting Splatmasters and Nel-spots.

The game needs you Doc, in some capacity.

I've read comments elsewhere regarding the suggestion that you should eBay yourself. If that should ever happen, let me know. I'll bid top dollar - you'd look great in my garage.
