About the swear filter...

ok... as the title states these are some questions i have about the swear filter.(i'm just trying to clear up some grey area that seems to exist) i looked at the ban list and noticed that the majority of the bans were for cussing.

PLEASE DON'T BAN ME FOR THIS!!!!

i know that putting a period or other character in the middle of the word to bypass it not allowed such as: pain.tball

but what about p*intb*ll (that is how it is done on other medium i.e. tv, magazines etc.)

also doing this is not allowed: paintball

doing this probably is not allowed either: p@intb@ll or paintba11

what if this were done: ********* (in context you could probably figure it out but it doesn't give it away directly. besides isn't that what the filter does anyway?)

also what if you were to make the word "slangish" such as (*AGAIN, PLEASE DON'T BAN ME*): fudge or sheet (for obvious words)

if a mod would kindly reply and set the record straight on this policy it may solve many of the problems with cussing and bypassing the filter.
(it would also be nice if this were moved to the rules / ban list forum or stickied or something...)

should this really be an issue? i don't come on here and worry about bypassing the swear filter. i'd rather enjoy AO than worry about cussing, its not even like you really need to cuss anyway, its ignorant.

paintball was just an example word.

as for if its an issue: yes because i find it dumb that the mods ban people for cussing and bypassing the filter when there was no formal post about the actual rules.

also, i dont know (or understand) why AO is so strict about cussing in the first place...

Thank you! My thinking is that if you REALLY feel that to politely and effectivly communicate what you want to say here that you have to cuss... maybe this place is not for you. I don't see how it adds to the discussion, it does add to the flames though.

im not saying it adds to the discussion, it just the way i talk. i live in an area that is full of rednecks, therefore it seems like every other word is a cuss word. sometimes its really had to even use AO because i have to be careful about my language. ITS JUST THE WAY I AM!

btw i'm still waiting for a mod to respond....

As the rules were once explained to me this little guy is the only acceptable alternate to a curse

Of course, you could always find a none cuss to put in its place, it is doable I am sure
