Warning: some sewing is involved in this project
This is something i thought about when i read that thread about the kid breaking his legs, so i developed it and came up with a plan. This is basically like the football targets you see in QB chalenges. it amounts to a hung sheet with hole cut out, backed with tubes to catch the reballs. here goes, tell me what you think.
materials:
garment hanger, looks like this http://tinypic.com/rk6fys.jpg, $20
sheet, should be larger that the garment hanger, can use bed sheet but will destroy. $20
rope, clothes line, or nylon rope. should not stretch, about 50ft. $3
duct tape, if you don't already have some whats wrong with you? $3
pajama botoms 3 pair, finally a use for all thos stupid pajamas your aunt gives you for x-mas http://tinypic.com/rk6lvq.jpg $15 at most per pair
cardboard, just a cardboard box or 2. $3
Tools:
Razor blade or knife.
needle and thread, or sewing machine
pins to pin for sewing
whatever is needed to assemble garment hangar
step 1 Sizing the sheet.
First assemble the top and sides of the hangar but do not attach the feet.
lay the hangar on the floor on top of the sheet.
measure about 2 inches from the sides of the hangar on the sheet and cut the length of the sheet.
line the top of the sheet up with the top of the hangar and measure a foot extra on the bottom of the sheet.
this will have shrunk the seet down but still left it bigger than the hangar.
step 2 reinforcing the sheet.
at the edges of the sheet run a strip of duct tape on both sides of the sheet with a little overhang. do this for all four sides.
now starting in the upper left hand corner of the sheet measure and cut small hole in the center of the duct tape every inch, big enough for the rope. repeat this with the other three sides.
step 3 attaching the sheet.
finish the garment hangar ataching the feet.
again lay the hangar on the floor on top of the sheet.
starting at the top left thread the rope through the holes in the sheet and over the top bar of the hangar.
when you reach the other side of the top of the sheet ty the rope off to the top bar, loop it so it does not slide into the center of the bar.
next go back to the starting point and cut and attach the rope in a similar fashion.
now stand the hangar up. the sheet should lay on the floor for a little and hang kind of loose.
starting at the top thread the rope down one side untill you reach the bottom og the hangar, attach and cut the rope as before, there should be unsecured sheet material at the bottom of the hangar. repeat for the other side.
finnally attach the bottom of the sheet to the hangar in the same manner.
when finished the sheet will hang loosely and have alot of excess at the bottom, this is to catch and hold the shots that miss the targets.
step 4 the pajamas.
cut the legs off of the pajamas at where the leg meets the groin of the pants.
take the pants and lay out the large hole on a flat piece of the cardboard.
cut the cardboard inside the pants so that the circle of cardboard fits about 1-2 inches inside the pantleg.
slice the pant leg so as to splay it out in the 1-2 inches outside of the cardboard, don't cut all the way to the cardboard.
repeat with 4 more pant legs.
lay the garment hangar onto the front side and pull out the slack of the sheet in the center of the hangar.
lay 1 cardboard circle in the center of this space and spread 1 pant leg around it.
pin the pant leg onto the sheet in this circle.
repeat in a 5 patern like seen on dice.
step 5 sewing
untie the sheet from the hangar.
remove the cardboard out of the pant legs, you shoule be able to slide it out of the cuff of the pant.
sew the legs onto the sheet. use strong stitching, either a v stitch or a double stitch.
reinsert the cardboard into the legs of the pants.
at the center of the cardboard, cut a smaller circle out of both the cardboard and the sheet, this is your target, so make it as big as you think you can hit.
sew the cuff of the legs closed, same type of stitching.
finally cut a small slit in the sheet just above the stitching but not through the cardboard.
repeat for the other legs.
step 6 put it all together.
rehang the sheet on the hangar.
duct tape the cuffs of the pant legs, and cut a small hole in the cuff at the top edge of the tape.
thread the end of a piec of rope through the hole and tie a not in it to hold it in place.
run the rope over the top bar but allow the leg to hang down fully.
cut the rope and repeat with the other legs.
step 7 use.
ok roll this thing into a hall way.
load up with reball.
let it rip
ok so either you suck and there is a ton of balls at the bottom of the sheet :)
or you are pretty good and you got a bunch off balls in the targets.
now go up with your guppies, grab the rope attached for one of the pantlegs and pull down. the reballs will either fall out the slit or need you to push the cardboard up to let the ball out.
reset and go again.
ok what do you guys think? if you might have some improvements let me know i am planning on building this in a little while when i have more time. if you build one please post your experience.

). I use it for nerf, airsoft, paintball (just grippers and lazerballs right now.... can't afford reballs yet)..... and I have even taken it out to my local shooting range and set it up for 15yrd pistol practice. With airsoft and lazerballs I just stacked a couple cardboard boxes behind it for extra safety. The 2x4 target mounts are adjustable to allow for a target size of 6"x6" to about 3'x2'....... The whole stand breaks down for compact storage, and cost about $25 to make.
