ut oh, paintball on news and not good

i watched it and it said that the injuries in paintball have tripled.
and its all because of those idiots who take their masks off when they get shot and walk out.
the news channel said that most of them were eye injuries with retina detachment and bleeding.

and they said nothing about masks on it either :\, however they did show videos of everyone was wearing masks so

Ineresting spelling. I'm thinking either retina or rectal.

It can go either way, were they shot above or below the waist? :)
Or better yet, why don't you kill yourself. No, really, die. Drop dead, don't leave a note, in fact burn your house while your little ego is stuck in a bench vice so that you'll also incenerate yourslef and everything you own with it. Because that's all you're worth. You're not even wirh thte time it'll take for the house to burn down, so just kill yourself. You're a waste of space. You are nothing, you always will be nothing. Don't leave a note, you're not worth the ink. - Tyger

eye injuries are really big in PB...most from outlaw play and idiots who arent even ballers shooting people with walmart spiders and all.

i heard that the industry does what it can to keep the injuries lowkey and off the front pages..like multi million dollar insurance payouts to the newly blind. one thing that shocked me was that most of these eye injuries occur to people behind the netting! since a string of hits on the netting can actually make it jump back...so if your leaning in looking thru the net the first ball will push the netting back and the rest in that string will hit your face at full speed and snatch out your peepers.

adam- thats interesting, i never stand too close to netting anyways tho, for that one reason, but didn't know it was where most eye injuries came from

tourneys and fields are supposed to keep people at least 10 feet back from the netting. at least thats what the insurance companies say. on fields where the base of the netting isnt anchored it can billow a good distance in wind or from hits. ive found that my habit is to hold my forearm up when walking close to the netting if its not anchored at the base.

this stuff was supposedly covered at the industry conference at iao.

I read an article on this in one of the local papers. They gave total injuries (2780, I think) as being tripled from 976 (?) over three years from 1997-2000. They added that an estimated 8 million people played paintball in 1999.

I think the injuries mostly occurred on outlaw fields, or kids playing in the backyard. The story hinted at that, but didn't say so outright.

I don't like to see more laws, but maybe they need to bring the minimum age back up, or something.

I think 18 to purchase is fine. But I also think parents should be accountable for their kids, to include when they are using Paintball Equipment. Supervision is not a bad thing, and more parents should keep that in mind.

I would like to see the actual breakdown in numbers, by age, where they were playing, supervised/unsupervised, etc. I think THOSE numbers would better serve the public than just announcing raw data.

                    Stupid people Suck.

you dont hear about how "paintball player saves small child from being eaten by a fox!" by shooting the fox of course

you dont hear how "man prevents local 711 from being robbed by having his paintball gun nearby!"

its all "kid gets shot in the eye by paintball"
"man loses sight and can no longer hear due to paintball incident"

                    its really stupid

they actually did say that it was mostly outlaw paintball, and that most injuries were at the age of 15 and below

i know for sure if i had a kid, i would not have his or her marker in reach if i didn't think they could be wise and mature about what its REALLY used for, a sport and nothing else.

my mother did the same to me and gave me the lecture of course, and i waited 3 years to finally get a decent marker and there was no way i wanted to get it taken away

just makes me mad, and of course everyone else who loves the sport, that they always have to show the negative on the sport, and rarely show the positive.

i think i may email my news channel and ask them to make a POSITIVE review on paintball

                        different thread

Paintball Talk is the main forum for Automags.org. Here is where we talk about the sport of paintball in general and make announcements relating to the forum and website.

Something like this always hurts the sports, but people forget things like this so in a few mionths it would have never happened.
