Hey, just wanted to make my first post introduction. I'm thinking of picking up a Mag to add to my regular markers. Been shooting my custom bushies and though they are nice I still miss my old 68 Classic. Looking at Mags now days they are somewhat different from my memories back in the 90's but not too much, seems there's alot more options now than then. I'm kindof a tinkerer so stock just doesn't work for me....for very long. Anyway Not sure what Mag to start looking at for a re-entry into the world of Mags.

Welcome to AO. I recommend buying a classic-valved mag. You can find them as cheap as $60-$100. Then you can start buying newer parts as you find deals for them. End result, you'll have 2 mags.Originally posted by Crash1976thanks for the welcome! Trying to figure out what kind of Mag I want to get...I'm on a budget to buy used....Can't spend more than 200.00 right now. Any suggestions?
Watch the video manual in its entirety before you buy a mag. You'll learn how it works and will be able to instantly diagnose any leaks.

First things first
Welcome home bro...Your a member of the greatest online community in the world. You'll find everything you could ever want to know or need here on AO.
I honestly feel that building a mag from the ground up is very rewarding. If you have $200 to spend, just start off by buying a X valve with a complete parts kit. and then from there piece a bad boy together
Again....Welcome!!!!!

Lateley I play at Fun On The Run near Lake Worth, but plan to check out Madd Dogz in Waxahachie and playing at DFW Adventure Park on 10/3...
What's an X-valve? When I owned my Mag we were excited about the introduction of the minimag and the foamieless bolt!Comment

Excellent!!
Next time I'm going to play in DFW I'll have to get in touch with you. FOTR is my home field.
I played there waaaaayyyy back when they were out in Azle.
I like their new field because it's 15 minutes from my parent's house.
Sad that we lost the jungle field to the oil well, but meh. Their revamp of the millenium field is pretty good.

As said by all, "welcome". I myself had my classic in my closet for about 6 years until I last year when I started back up. I found AO and have loved it ever since. There is such a vast knowledge base here that you will always have someone to help you.Originally posted by Crash1976What's an X-valve? Basically, the X-valve is the replacement for the RT-Pro valve, which replaced the RT valve, which replaced (sort of) the Classic RT valve.
They all work on the same principle that is different from the classic valve. The difference between the individual valves is that the X-valve (aka RT-Pro valve) is all aluminum (very light), where as the other valves are 1/2 aluminum and 1/2 stainless steel. They all work on the "Reactive Trigger" principle. If you are familiar with the Tippmann Response trigger, it is similar. Basically, the valve is set up so when you pull the trigger with 1.5 lbs of force, after it fires, the valve will push the trigger rod back at around 3-6 lbs of force, depending on the input pressure from your tank. Go here to find out more zakvetter.com. Zak has put together some great information about these valves along with some amazing videos of the speed you can get from them.
Now, when you're asking about what kind of gun you should get, you need to ask yourself some questions. What type of ball do you play? Speedball, woodsball, etc? Do you need to shoot fast when you really have to or are you okay with 6-8 balls per second? The classic valves are still as great as they ever were, and if you're not shooting more than 15 bps, you shouldn't have any issues. If you really want to shoot fast, then yes, go with an RT or X-valve. As suggested before, lurk around the BST for a bit and see what is available. Go through the picture gallery and see what other people have put together and see what you like.
Remember this though, you should really make sure that whatever gun you get it has a Level 10 bolt. If you're not familiar with this, the Level 10 bolt replaces only the bolt and the power tube internals, you use the same valve. When it is tuned correctly, it will eliminate completely all chopped paint, something that is a problem for many automags. Again, there is a ton of information about it here on AO, but go here (http://automags.org/resource/level10/index.shtml) for details from the AirGun team.
Good luck with your search for your mag. Just be careful, I started a year ago with a stock classic mag bought in '96. Today I have a Y-framed, ULE bodied, X-valved pneu-mag. The only thing on it that is from the original mag is the rail. Yes, they are fun.

Thanks for all the info and advice. I'm strictly a recreational player, woodsball or speedball. I like them both pretty equally. I have a few different electros but don't have a mech in my collection. Was thinking I should have a mech for when the newbs start whining about electro ownage....I could whip out the Mag and own then some more....Plus it's nice to have a Mech in the bag cause you never know what might go wrong with the electros, and it's light and simple yet very effective....not to mention I miss my old Mag..
i think a classic valved mag with a ULE centerfeed body, intelliframe and Lvl 10 bolt will suit me just fine for a long time...so that's what I'm going for.Comment
