Just got back from the NCPA Nationals @ wwos.

Hmm, let me start off by saying it was run pretty dang well, before the games started anyway. Pre registration and registrationg was nice, and everything but game scheduling was great.

There was so much downtime most of the day I almost wanted to stop playing. One field in paticular had some pretty rough reffs. never played on Lee's field but met him!

i was lucky and reffed with some pretty cool people.
there was a ton of downtime too as well as a very late start for the high school ballers. some pretty good games though and we got to hang out with the dj's from the radio station that was doing a "shoot buckethead" promo.

buckethead is a dj and he would run back and forth while people that had entered a contest got 14 seconds to shoot him as many times as they could from the deadbox area. lame but kind of funny at the same time. the dj's were cool and asked a lot of questions about paintball and were very receptive to it.

the nppl guys were great too. very cool, great class.

also, i was wrong on the dates for the orlando cup. it's doesn't start until next tuesday. i'm having second thoughts about reffing xball. don't know if i'm ready for that one yet.

i believe Lee said he was reffing 1 and 3 when I met him.

No that wasn't me. I shot a all black with blue gripped emag. blue jersey and black pants.

I dint pay attention to the numbers so which was it? 1 & 3 that is. the Empire field, the Xball field, the NPS field, the PSP field, the ICD field, or the Evil field. And the best part of the day was definately the civil war style play.

1st was the field containing nps and empire stuff, 2 was empire and 3 was the nps field i do believe (very open)

It was great when people kept asking my friend if UCF had a team 'cause he wore a UCF shirt.

HKONi: yes, that was field one, and yes, that was me. the ref farthest away from everything. closest corner to the all star cafe. should have said something man. did you happen to catch the "paintball dad" calling me a prick because i wouldn't discuss a controversy with him through the netting? it wasn't his field his field... it was MY field.

field 1 was the high school field. some pretty good play overall. i think an all girl or mostly girl team won....not sure though. i didn't even know purdue won the college. we were totally out of the loop on everything.
we were "ref team ghetto" on "field ghetto". all the left over props. we were mostly the refs from the nppl class along with a real nice guy from bad karma and another kind of pushy guy from a field in orlando.
after high school ball was over, we split up an went to field 3 (national field) and did the semis with a bunch of guys from bad karma. cool people, good refs and very knowledgable about the game. had a blast with those guys. they ahd 22 people reffing altogether.
most of the guys i reffed with were real cool and excellent refs. several young kids that did real well too. i got the nickname "medic" because i told them i'm a nurse and if anyone gets hurt or has trouble with the heat, call out medic. well, a kid got bunkered in the nether regions of his anatomy, and the medic got called for. the name stuck after that lol.

before finals were done, we went back to field and hung out with the guys from that radio station. 101 real rock i think. they were real cool and asked a lot of questions about paintball. they came back saturday and played with listeners that showed up.saturday afternoon the ultimate judge got about 6 cases of paint and grabbed a buch of specators and let them play free with some tippys loaned out from oes on field 1. we reffed that until about 6 and then went home after a decent b.s. session. i have no idea how many games we did with the high schoolers. 6 hours worth or so.
earlier in the day, they had a "shoot buckethead" contest, he's a dj and winners of a drawing got to shoot at him for 14 seconds from the dead box while he ran back and forth and jumped up and down about 30 feet away. it was lame, but funny too.

day2: only one field in operation for the open ballers. the psp xball field. we did a total of 56 games including the finals. 12 teams total. only three novice. all teams played each other i think. again, not sure.

some of those teams were serious power whiners. i don't think they ahd ever seen real reffing and most of them obviously did not read the rules. i heard stuff like "were allowed one cuss word" (not). and "dropping a game time doesn't count" (again i say...not). many one for ones and the associated kvetching along with it. but, as zippy will tell ypou, i'm a tough guy to argue with. my vocabulary basically consisits fo "you're out." "no." and "this is your warning.". oh yeah, also..."have a nice day!"
even winners were whining. i don't understand that. the guy i got in the worst argumant with, or at least one of the worst. ended up hanging with me at the end of the day. his team and i were all laughing about it.
just goes to show ya...they hate you when it's against them, love you when it's for them and at the end of the day i just don't care.

saw zippy and felony from ao saturday and movie guy sunday and a couple people i know from showdown. wish you had made it chris, it was pretty good play. only one game went to time (5 minutes). both days got a late start due to poor organisation and scheduling though. saturday went into the dark and sunday, we turned the finals out (44 games) beginning at 9:30 and ending at 4 pm. 1/2 hour behind scedule, that included an hour or so worth of breaks. awards ceremony on sunday was started about 6-6:30. not bad if i do say so myself.

our lunch each day was just enough food to piss me off. one dry cheesburger and a coke or a water. pay was good though, 150$ a day minus 100$ for the nppl class.

i've decided not to ref the xball. i don;t think i can handle all those people on the sideline yelling and crap. thats not paintball to me, not that want to participate in anyway. i'll still go to watch saturday if anyone wants to hook up.
i'm hoping for an invitation to ref the super 7 in tampa. i got good marks on my review from dan and gil the nppl guys so i think i have a decent chance.
the nppl is going to a all professional reffing core. no more teams reffing teams. i think the nppl has it going on over psp. psp will let anyone ref, i'm a good example of that, they'll take me sight unseen and let me ref thier biggest event with no experience at it. that worries me. not good for the game, players, or me.

sunday, bad karma, the viewloader all stars and some other pros practiced on the field behind us. we had them moved because the noise was bad for the team on the far end. they couldn't hear well and communicaiton suffered. same with the music from the dj's later. we had them turn it down. not fair for the teams on the far end.

i had a good time all in all and would like to do it again next year if they have it there. except for the delays, the second psp truck not showing up with the big red chronies, rakes and other field maintenance equiptment, i'd say it was a good tourney. raehl works pretty hard at it and deserves credit for his efforts.

I don't think it was you 'cause the shield I saw was on the Empire field. And the all girl team was wearing those orange Element jerseys. I saw them get spanked in their first game. just remember grey hat with orange underside thats me. the only ref I noticed greatly was the big guy calling ten seconds. And that was funny when the DJ got shot in the neck.

i was on the empire field (national...same thing lol). in back in the middle. we were there after high school was done and then went back to field one for the promo. the big guy was cowboy from bad karma. nice guy. did he have a gray j&j shirt on?

did you see civil war play? I think I heard field one still playing. And $6+ for a 20 oz. of coke and a hot dog was over priced. I didn't even know they had burgers. My friend kept b*****n' about wanting a burger not a hot dog. and I'll be at the Orlando Open on the second definately 'cause its my birthday. I'll try to make it out there on the first saturday.

Damn, I was in NY over the weekend so I missed the thing this weekend. And Buckethead(on RealRock 101.1) talking about it all last week didn't help

I'll have to catch a ride to the PSP event though. I'll probobly be going May 1st(Saturday) if I do go.

hmmm the forum says I hold the thousandth thread but the thread says I hold #1001. In two weeks I'll be at the wwos again on... Oh no my birthday is in the way. Well if I have my party basically on sat. and play a few rounds of PB w/ my friends on sun. and go out for the very end of the tourney. So I'll be there on sat. and maybe on sun. Lee maybe we should just wear giant AO signs. We could recruit new members and find each other. Are my dates right? I have the 28th - the 2nd.
