The BASH June 12-13 - Any AOers attending?

Just checking to see if anyone has plans to attend The BASH this year in Ohio?

Always a great time. Always hundreds of players. Always utter chaos at the end of Saturday and Sunday during "BASH Hour."

Saw very few Mags last year ... though Warps made a strong showing. Hoping to change that by druming up some support for Ohio's biggest big game and charity event (and among the longest running annual events in the country).

    The BASH, June 12 - 13, 2004

For the benefit of those who have never been to the event, here's a brief overview:

The BASH is entering it's 16th year! The event will be held at JONT Enterprises outside of New Paris, Ohio (10 minutes from Richmond, IN; 30 minutes from Dayton, OH).

The BASH is a charity paintball event, benefitting the American Cancer Society. It is a multiple objective flag base big game with two large teams. Players are given 'unlimited' lives, meaning that when a player is eliminated, they must only leave the field, clean up, rechrono, and are free to reenter the field of play. Team sizes typically range in the neighborhood of 150+ vs. 150+, spread over a large wooded course with 11 flag locations.

Game times are from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturday and Sunday. The flag base distribution is typically as follows: Alpha HQ, Bravo HQ, Bases 1 - 8, and Charity Point. Both HQs and Bases 1 - 8 are basic post constructions for hanging flags. At scheduled times, approximately every hour, bases rotate from 'open' to 'closed'. What this means is that while there are 10 basic flag stations located on the course, only 3 - 5 will actually be 'live' at any given hour, which helps direct players to go 'where the action is.' During the last hour of the event - BASH hour - ALL bases are closed except Charity Point. Charity Point is a 12' x 12' elevated wooden platform built in a clearing of trees atop the crown of a hill. The flag post for Charity Point is atop this construction, a full 10' off the ground. During BASH hour, the objective is to take and hold Charity Point at each 15 minute mark from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. This is no easy task, as standing atop Charity Point - an elevated wooden plank that's slicker than snot from broken paint and in the middle of a clearing that everyone's looking at - to hang your team's flag will expose you to the cross-fire of 300+ players.

This two-day event is easily accessible for most in the Great Lakes region, and there are camping locations, hotels, motels, and restaurants within a 15-minute drive of the event. The field is located only 10 minutes from the I-70/US-40 interchange at the Ohio/Indiana border.

Player Registration Packets are available for download now!

Any AO'ers interested in attending - please let me know. The BASH (formerly The Buckeye Bash) was a real big event in the late 80's and early 90's, with sponsers ranging from Tippmann to Brass Eagle to RP Scherer, J & J, and Indian Springs. In the past five years or so though, the event has seen a decline in trade show vendors - though not attendance - and survives through word of mouth and the players' enjoyment of the game and adrenaline overload of BASH hour.

This is a great event at a great price. Preregistration price is $30.00 for one day, $50.00 for both days. Walk-on price is $35.00 for one day, $55.00 for both days. Entry fee includes ALL DAY AIR, with both CO2 and CA/N2 stations provided. Paint prices will be announced at the event. Typically, the rate is very competitive - it is a FIELD PAINT ONLY event. The is currently a preregistration special available as well. For $120.00, you get registration for both days, a Bash t-shirt, patch and one case of paint to be picked up at the event.

My team, Nemesis, have been volunteer refs for this event for the past 10 years. I would love to see some more Automag owners on the field and at my side when I play on Sunday. We will be arriving in Richmond, IN several days before the event, and we intimately know all the good watering holes in the area.

LOL, We stayed at Arrowhead the first two or three years there, but between having to wake up an hour early Sunday to breakdown the tent, cold community showers, and the damn bullfrogs croaking through the middle of night, we've since moved to the Holiday Inn off of 40 for the past ten years.

Our idea of "roughing it" is going to the liquor store across the street from the Holiday Inn, buying a couple cases of beer, a few bottles of liquor, and five bags of ice and stocking up the bathtub for a long night of Texas Hold'em.

We've got a group of friends (both former opponents and former teammates) who still stay at Arrowhead every year though, mostly comprised of players from what used to be the Ohio Outlaws and Buckeye Ballbusters from back when we were seriously competitive in the mid-90's.

I may try to swing by Arrowhead Friday night to say hello.
