and supposedly USPS money orders are good and "safe"

None really. If you are super concerned, use an escrow service, though its a pain, its safe. Check with Duff, though, I think he has done some trading before. Also, you can use a third party like Palmers.

i hate the idea of third party, sounds like a pain, it costs a chunk of money and time too, but it gets the job done

paypal has worked fine for me

With paypal they just yank the funds out. There is nothing paypal can do if there are no funds to recover. I don't trust paypal to protect me.
