AO-VA, anyone?

Skyline has limited fields, there X-ball and their Ultimate Air.. And then they have their huge village field though, that would be a blast to play on. Ive heard awesome things about Pevs in NoVa. I just dont like the terrain on Skylines Fields, its to hard to slide and stuff, because the last time i played there(April) it was all gravel, and i killed my knees and my body. I say we either have it at Pevs or somewhere in Central Va, so its a fair drive for the southerners and Northerners.

AO-VA has been visited many times, but never seems to manifest. If someone wants to do the legwork and set it up, I'm there. I'll probably be able to bring at least 3 buddies too.

ok, heres what has happened in the past. There was one AO-VA day about three years ago at the old Pev's location. Myself, RobAGD Major Ho and several other now defunct AO members were there. That was one of the very first AO days ever.

Since then there has been a great deal of talking, but whenever one gets semi organized, everyone seems to back out in the last week.

The thread listed below is somewhat of a roll call for any AO VA guys to like who they are and where.

The problem with organizing an AO-VA day is that most are not willing to drive very far. The Western, far southern and East shore guys are not wanting to drive 3-5 hours to get to Pev's

The northern guys are not wanting to drive to any of the great VA beach area fields. and Skyline is quite far out of the way for most (some northern guys might) but it is mostly just you western VA guys that want that place. I have to agree with asian on this one too.

So that basically leaves us with Central. So in Central VA Richmond area you have two great fields (although somewhat out in the boonies) and one poor field, but very well located.

Paintball Authority www.pbauthority.com is in powhatan which is about 20 minutes west of South Side Richmond. This is a good field, has great grass turf and multiple air ball fields (including this years Muddy-Mardi Gras Xball field). The only down side is they are a little bit pricey. However, i know the owner as does asian and he is more than willing to work out a paint deal if we get a large enough crew. They usually only do 3k fills, but do have a ram (they workers are usually unable to hook it up though).

Splatbrothers paintball www.splatbrotherspaintball.com is about 45 minutes south east of Richmond in Hopewell. this is also a very excellent field. It is the home field for several teams including aftermath (div 3 xball) and home field for Ronn Stern www.ronnstern.com. Ronn is the famous paintball artist and a great friend to Tom Kaye and of course shoots a nice emag. Ronn is also great friends with Josh Silverman (the crazy jew of paintball 2Xtremes magazine). Donn Hager, owner of splatbros is a good friend of mine, and i know that if we get a decent crew together we can work out a paint deal.

They have excellent UA fields, 80+acres of wood fields. and i think they have an Xball field. I haven't been there since december, and i know they are supposed to have it by summer, so they might have it now. They also do 45k fills

Also, if we do this at Splatbros, i bet we can get Josh to come down there and do an article about it. So you could even get your mug in the best paintball magazine out.

Finally, the best located field, but a poor field is BCBG paintball (www.bcbg-paintball.com). they are right accross from Kings Dominion (and everyone knows where that is. They are right off of I-95 so they are easy for everyone to get to. Their prices are cheap, and you can bring your own paint. They do have a ram so they can fill to 45k. They only have two little fields (one woods and one hyperball). Both fields pretty much suck, but the people are friendly and prices are good.

So those are the most centrally located three best choices if we want to get the most VA guys we can.

I always thought Strasburg was pretty North/Central. I guess my geography needs some tweaking. :S

I forgot about Splat Bros. and PBAuthority, I've been to both of those fields since we have a house in Henrico. I have several 'Mag friends there that aren't registered here, either of those fields would be perfect! I would personally suggest Splat Bros. too, but it really doesn't matter to me.

thecavemankevin, since you have better connections out in Richmond could take charge of the event? Sorry to put the burden on you but you just have better connections out there.

So it seems everyone likes the Mid-July date. How about the weekend of July the 17th or 18th. The 17th is a Saturday and the 18th, obviously, is a Sunday. Splat Bros. can do private event, I think, so if we get enough people we could play on a week day.

week days wont work for many of us that are out of school in the work force....so that kinda rules things out. I personally vote for a sunday.

I vote TMX near Fredericksburg or BCBG at Kings Dominion. Im willing to drive to the richmond area as I have in the past for splat bros or Pb Authority as well.
Though I hear TMX isnt the greatest nor BCBG I am CONFIDENT that with enough AO'ers we WILL make it a great day of play.

Ill call BCBG man, if i have a vested interested (ie my preference like BCBG) then ill do a lot of the leg work. Rob said he is very limited in the resources he can pull. He still has a boss, Pev, and Pev likely wont close down a sup'air field for us monkies as it pulls a lot of players for Pevs.
