Sounds good, in my 5 years of attending D-day I have never seen a mortar platform set up?? Where are they usually at? I run with 4th ID.
Also, whats the verdict on under-barrel launchers that fire more than 1 paintball at a time?? still a no go? like m204 style.Minimag, 16" Dye Titanium, Benchmark double finger, phase II, level 10, 88 4500, warp. -
Well, I can't speak to you never seeing a mortor platform. Sorry, I have no idea...lol.Originally posted by bojangles1983Sounds good, in my 5 years of attending D-day I have never seen a mortar platform set up?? Where are they usually at? I run with 4th ID.

The verdict on the under-barrel launchers is the same as the mortors...has to be fired from a fixed 45* angle or more. To me, it actually makes no sense to even have one. You cannot use grapeshot [like the RAP4 68 Thunder-thinggy] that uses 4 paintballs in the 203 shell. Those are a no-go. Grapeshot in general is a no-go.
What it does though, is open up the lines to accept more than just the "Scepter launchers only" rule of the past. They have to be a commercially made item [no home-brews] though and from how I interpret what was said, older home-made launchers may no longer be permitted. There will most likely be an appeal so keep an eye on that thread in case there's a determination one way or the other.Comment

Ever since I first went to OK D-Day in '07 they have always allowed Launchers and Motars... The Launcher had to be the ones made by Scepter and no home brew and launched at a 45* angle with a 2oz paint grenade... The motars had to be inspected approved as well by the Staff and fired at no less than a 45* angle with a 2oz paint grenade... The grenades could not be fired directly at a player... I know the Axis side has used motars on the beaches... Now the Scepter as well as the Metadyne Havoc are now allowed in either a M203 under-gun configuration or as a M79 Thumper (Blooper)....
Here's a pic of a M203

I hope that helps

Any appeal to allow "home grown" will go down in flames.
We go through this at D-Day every year. The "allowed" launchers are tested to ATSM standards and are allowed by the insurance carrier. Now that Metadyne makes some really nice launcher, it makes sense to allow that at D-Day. Home-grown tend to be made by PVC. That is where folks get into trouble....you cannot ensure the safety of such a device.
There were motars produced for the industry a few years back. In fact the Allies and Germans at D-Day went through an arms race to find them on e-bay. WK2 is correct....they have been used by the Germans.Comment

The Allies have used them too. I actually built a composite mortar tube that was subsequently approved for use, but the grenades were never reliable enough to make using the mortars on a large scale worth while. Between early detonation posing a danger to the crew, the possibility of a lack of detonation at the end of the trip, and the question if splattered players will actually call themselves out, mortars seem to be more trouble then they are worth.Comment
