Few Questions about D-Day 2k4

This will be my first scenario game so I have a couple questions.

1) What would be a good unit for newbs, like one w/ less focus on smaller "save the downed pilot" missions and more on general ones? Atm my friends and I cant decide between the 101st or the Canadian Airbourne

2) I read through the missions for each unit and it seems like the Germans are always on defense. At first we wanted to be Germans since they look more fun for role-playing purposes but defense seemed boring. Are there any newb-type German units that do more than defending xxx?

3) What is the field going to be like besides the towns and forts? As in mainly woods or alot of scattered bunkers and small villages.

I played DDay 2003, it was my first scenario game ever.
I was in the 1st division. Lots of action, you get to storm the beach.

be in the first boatload and storm the beach with TK .

I'm in rangers for 2k4 D-Day, so I won't be doing that. I still hope to get a chance to meet and chat a little with Tom, even though I'm a blazer toter, and not a mag shooter .
