Here is a post I made in the general forum about "sniping" in paintball. I think ANYONE who's ever played woodsball has at one point wished they could snipe. At this point the technology exists to make it happen (the spin stabilized rounds Tom Patented for the FN303) but there are issues with insurance regulations. I'm wondering if with enough effort if something couldn't shake loose. The other thread is:
Paintball sniper - a new dimension to the game?

Paintball sniper - a new dimension to the game?

i thin that the bigest issue is velocity.
for a sniper to be a "SNIPER" they need to hit things from far away
and have the paintball break. to do this u need to up the velocity. its the same thing with the tippman flatline ok u get more distance and a flatter trajectory but u r just gonna bounce the paint off at the same didstance u bounce paint with a normal paintball barrel. if true to life combat is more your thing i would say go play airsoft, because paintball and true combat r nothing alike and never will be.

Interesting concept, cledford.
But then again, my whole group (minus maybe two or three people) plays full auto anyway.----------------------------------

I still can't see the problem. Someone walking a trigger at 20 bps and me shooting my imagine on auto that is capped at 13 bps?
I think we all know who the bigger offender is, but it's that "fully automatic" phrase that scares people.----------------------------------

So if a real world sniper practices the tactics that it takes to get close enough to eliminate an enemy, then shoots them within, say, 100 feet, ( an easy shot for anyone who knows how to shoot) he should no longer be considered a "sniper"?for a sniper to be a "SNIPER" they need to hit things from far away
Sniping in paintball is about stealth, oncealment and using tactics and strategies that get you close enough to eliminate an opponent before he knows you are there. Range is not a factor.Safety, honesty, fun.......in that order! SMAK ZONE PAINTBALL Home of The Spring Fling, Operation: Eminent Storm, The Fire Fall Objective, and The Christmas Clash

full auto is a problem. If you can walk a trigger at 20 bps you have been playing for awile and know when to stop. You are not gong to just keep on shooting. Anyone can hold down the trigger and thats were the problem is. You get some 6 year old kid who doesnt know when enough is and doesnt listen or watch for the person to call themselfs out.

I have been playing a while, and I know when to stop shooting on full auto. All it takes is to watch the target.Originally posted by jesseyo13full auto is a problem. A six year old kid shouldn't be playing paintball in the first place, let alone using a full auto gun he or she dosen't know how to use.----------------------------------

thats great for you eston, but at my field 75% of the people playing are about 10-15. Most are just renting pro carbines. I see at least 1 kid getting hit 5-8 times almost every game with just pro carbines. Imagine what it would be like with full auto guns. It would not only make people not want to play again, but make insurance evan more exspensive. Its just not worth it.

I see your point. I guess it would only work for an older crowd then....----------------------------------

well, the thiung you have to remember is that this would be a game where these things are expected. full auto guns are already on the market, and god knows you can easily exceed 300fps anyway. the thing here is that the insurance company covering the game would have to have a solid as stone waiver form, and maybe put minimum age of participation, no matter what, at 14 or something (with perental permission). Also, this would obviously have to a highely refed event. I could see west point doin this sort of scenario, they usualy have a high ref/player ratio and it's the government, they can do whatever they want, lol.far from handsome, but damn a whiteboy tokeComment

fields don't want some noobie who may have just gotten his auto spyder to go out and get excited and hold the trigger down and put 30 rounds on so poor player, a pro who can walk a trigger isn't the same because he is pulling the trigger for every ball that he shoots and may over shoot alittle but no where hear the potential for the spyder being held, this is what i was told a year ago but it didn't make any sense why i could play on three round burst like i wanted to. but now i have automag and its not a big deal
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

yes, the whole 'pro walker' thing is not accurate at all. I've witnessed MANY eight year olds rip out ropes with their rat-imps, etc. I was on a young guns team this year (im 14) with two 8 year olds. Both had impulses, both had NO control on shot amount (Oh, I just twiddle my fingers, right?) and were either shot out 3 seconds in or had gun problems. Yea, it was a fun tourney..
