    D-Day 2004 Re-Cap

Hey guys, hope everybody made it home Ok. That is if you survived the storm on Sat. night. Just wanted to ask what everybody thought about the game. Over on the D-Day forums there is some debate as to how even the sides were. I myself had fun storming the beach with the 3rd Batt. Rangers (Rangers lead the way. All The Way!! Hoo-rah! ). It was my first year so I can't compare it to any other D-Day events.

It was cool meeting a few fellow AO'ers, even if I didn't interduce myself. For those working the AGD vender tent, I am the gentleman that asked if any of you were going to be out playing and asked if TK was sleeping in. When Clare responded about waiting for Trina and Doobie I got a little flustered. I mean she really talked to me. After that I couldn't think straight. Sorry again for not introducing myself.

Well.... Like I said, I just wanted to hear that everybody survived the Sat. night's storm and made it home alright. And also how their game went.

    Peace

I damn sure didnt have 600.00 worth of fun. I wont be going back. Maybe I will do the Michigan Monster Game next year.

It sounds like the germans were severly under manned....on two objectives the Germans never even got anywhere near the obj.

        Nope...82nd Airbourne.

Only real fights that the Germans put up was at St. Lo and Alpha from what I saw. When there were Germans to fight it was a lot of fun but there just wasnt enough to warrant traveling 580 miles and dropping 600+ dollars.

I wont be back next year for sure but will watch to see how it goes in the next few. I might be willing to try again if they resolve some of the many many glaring issues.

On the plus....I convinced wifey that I needed a new digital camera for the trip.

I can tell you this. It didn't feel like we (the Allies) were fighting a shrunken army at the wall.

Good job to all the Germans at the wall. I am sorry you ran out of paint sooner than we did. I don't know what would have happened if there wouldn't have been the supply problems for both sides.

I heard too many horror stories about the OK D-Day event to travel the distance. Although 4000 player has got to be very unmanageable. I am giving the Skirmish D-Day event a go in July. Let's see what they can do.

              I wasn't there but ...

My teammates were at the wall ... They said that if there wasn't an hour long round just to get gas and paint the allies would have never gotten the beach.

They're talking about getting about $2000 of paint and their own fill station and killing all allies as they walk on the beach all day long ....

I may join you next year. I am thinking of trying out a different squad/division/or even side, just to try something new that D-Day has to offer. Then again ................................................ showing the germans it wasn't a fluke that the Allies broke the tie and took the wall almost 2 hours early might be fun.

Good game to those who did stick out the heat on both sides.

                Peace

The D-Day game and the entire week was awsome. Basically, the Woodstock of paintball events... a week of mini scenarios, speed ball and a big battle. The overall logistics of the entire event was handled suberbly. They do need better showers though.

I was with the Germans on the Atlantic Wall - first bunker along with a couple of other dudes. I lost count how many Allied landing crafts that we mowed down. I can't believe we lost the wall... the lack of paint and CO2 at the dead pool as promised was definitely a factor.

The taking of Firebase Alpha and Bravo was a well coordinated attack. Regarldless, kudos to the Allies .. they hung tough and kicked our buts. History stands as is.

Even sweeter than the game, was the Coke Girl, Tammy.... I didn't really didn't need to "bring" a tent.

Agreed. I was also stationed at St. Lowe. We had some 120 Germans against some 400 Allies.

The night game was incredible. Pretty much impossible to see anything but it was still a blast. I enjoyed myself at D-Day but I only spent about 175 bucks the whole weekend and it was only an hour drive for me since I'm from NW Arkansas.

LOL...yeah I was the first guy to hit the plywood bunker at St. Lo...spit out some paint and then all hell broke loose on me. Took about 10 rounds in a split second....lol...walking back to the dead zone with a big assed smile the other allies seemed more cautious after seeing me drip paint.

Once I got back after cleaning my goggles we started to roll and I started to pile up some kills. Ended up with 14 clean kills and two deaths for St. Lo. Was a turkey shoot for a while between people thinking I couldnt reach out and tap them and others being pushed into me from other advancing allies.

I was there and I was a German. I was at Fire Base Charlie... haha... yeah, we didn't do so well. We were out numbered.... there is no doubt about it. We watched as the Allies unloaded off their busses(well we saw the busses come in). We had two of those trucks full of guys. The allies had 3 full trucks and 3 full busses.... It was still fun. I didn't care about the numbes.
The heat is the only thing that got ot me... I only had a 400 rounds + my hopper so I didnt have a ton of paint. The rest of my case was at my camp site... that is a HUGE walk. By the time I got to the AGD booth I was dead. I went to my tent and fell asleep. This was at about 2:00. I will HAVE to get a camel bak next year.
All in all I had a good time. I only had to travel abour 4 hours and I spent about $200. I think I will go back next year. I will still be a German.

                            Bigger Than Imagined

Wow! This was my first year at D-Day, and I was very impressed by the numbers. Sure, there was some disorganization, petty bickering, and negative nancies but there were 3200 + players! You can't get those numbers playing Rec-ball at your local field.

I would have to agree about the night game. I thought it was one of the best parts of the whole weekend. Hearing that many paintball markers shooting at once brought tears to my eyes. I was a German who hid in the treeline well in front of the base. I got completely surrounded by Allies who did not notice me. I turned around and pretended to be one of them until I could get away. That was intense!

There were many Germans complaining about the numbers. I did notice that we always seemed outnumbered, but I really don't care. I had a great time, and will be back again.
All know the way; few actually walk it.

                              Hey guys!!

D-Day was awesome! Aside from the heat, and the killer thunderstorm (next time I'm all about staying in a hotel) it happens EVERY year! I had a really good time.

I'd definately say drink water and gatorade ALL day long. I survived the showers, just had to think happy thoughts and not pay attention to the scent of rotten eggs....it WAS still a shower

It was great to destroy the Germans FOR ONCE!

In the evening Clare and I had too much fun when we borrowed Preacher's ATV and she was innocently introduced to off-roading...hehhe!!

It was great to meet some of the fellow AO'ers and for those of you who made it to the BBQ, thanks, it was a great time, even though we were distracted on the ATV for a little while....I heard the search party was heading out for us.
