Coffee Wars - Outdoor Adventures, March 6th

    Coffee Wars
    at Outdoor Adventures
    Sunday March 6, 2005

Time: near future. Place: USA. The general population is very pleased with their independent candidate who won the election on a promise of radical reform. President Howard Sturm has kept his promises; the improvements to society are amazing. Most effective of his new policies is an aggressive attack on the use of illegal drugs. Because of this success, drugs in American society are almost non-existent. But, as we’ve seen before, “absolute power corrupts, absolutely”. He insists on fixing all that plagues America, seeking out the things that he feels are “harmful” to the human body. Weight loss prisons, driver education internment camps and mandatory literacy brain washing clinics are everywhere. Criminals are dealt with in the harshest of ways. In a surprise announcement, President Sturm unveils his newest plan to eradicate the next addictive pleasure that Americans enjoy. His plan calls for the complete and total elimination of…COFFEE from the face of the planet. Rumors abound that Chocolate is next.

The South American country of Columbia has undergone a rapid change in its economy. The loss of their number one cash crop has caused the Drug Cartels to shift their powerfully corruptive organization to take over the Java bean industry. Their swift success has lead to the “disappearance” of all of the government’s leaders that supported American President Sturm’s campaign against illicit drugs.

The US Army has been tasked to insert a covert team into Columbia and eliminate the export of coffee. Aside from locating and liberating the surviving Columbian leadership the American forces are set on destroying the Java bean fields and busting up the Cartel once and for all. This team will have to go up against the Caffeine Cartel, the Columbian Army, M69 Groucho Marxist guerrillas, American Coffee Enthusiasts (ACE) and the elite Starbuckz Coffee Output Regulation Squad (SCORS). In order to achieve complete success, the US Army has chosen to send their elite group of jungle warfare specialists – the Fast Action Response Team! Who else would they send??? The only hope for the team is to go undetected by Columbian President Juan Valdez. Can these silent but deadly warriors go undetected? Can they stop the flow of coffee? Only you can decide their fate!

    Coffee, tea, or paint?

    The Coffee Wars are ON!!

I believe that the RAMF will be signing up for the red team yet again, being the coffee-loving Starbucks groupies that we all are.

All of you AOers in the MD/DC/VA region, and even farther north and south, need to be there to see the great fields, props and management that OA has developed for their scenario games. Lee Draper, the owner, is a true scenario player's friend, and he does all he can to make each of his games better than the last.

You may have missed the Battle of the Bulge and Ice Planet Zulu, but believe me, you cannot afford to miss this one!

Check out OA's website at www.oapaintball.com for details on applying for leadership, engineer and medic positions for the Coffee Wars.

    Viva la Java!!

        What a day!!

To all of you AO-ers who were present at yesterday's scenario at OA, I commend you on some of the most intense scenario ball I have seen in my 13 years of playing. The fields, the missions, the props, the TANKS, and most importantly the players made it a most memorable, demanding and enjoyable day for the RAMF. Kudos to Red General Wayne and to Will, Shanghai of the Dead Ringers, and Scenario Steve Mlynarski for their great leadership and dedication to making it a great day. Steve, if you're out there, I hope the thumb heals before the next game in May.

Much respect and thanks also to the teams and players of the blue team. OPFOR and KnightStalkers, Carter's Commandos (save one who was on the red team...and kicked ***!), and the myriad of others who put up one hell of a fight throughout the entire day. thanks to Cooter of OPFOR who put his evil genius mind and skilled hands to work making the tanks and anti-tank launchers, which added a whole new dimension to OA's already stellar games.

Also check out MarylandScenarios.com for pictures and content on this legendary day in East Coast scenario ball.

Can't wait for the next one, and we'll see you in Hopewell for Ragnarok in April.

        Until then...

How much was the registration fee on this game and how many players showed up?? We may come to the next one with our tank if the numbers were right.

            Pyro,
The registration was $25 at the gate, and $20 online pre-registered. There were approximately 250-300 players there. OA's tanks were "walkers," in that they were mock-ups that players wore and walked around. There were ports that the designated player could shoot his or her own marker through, but I believe that OA paid for the tank's paint. And air is free there, so no problems with that.

I'm not sure what your tank is like, but there are plenty of open areas and a great road that encircles the entire field for a true mobile tank. Get in touch with Lee Draper at OA. You can find his e-mail on their site, oapaintball.com.

            See you out there.
