MXS Sued

Hrm, rather interesting considering other recent events. MXS was the main sponsor organizer for Shatnerball 06, this lawsuit happens and Shatnerball 06 is 'postponed'. Coincidence? Possibly, With the interest on Ao.org alone for showing up at the now postponed Shatnerball I find it hard to beleive that there were not enough pre-registrations, or 'intent' to register by folks across america.
Is AGD and Tom Kaye yet another victem of shady business practices and lawsuits? Directly affecting the players fun.
Yes both receipts from Shatnerball registration and refunds came directly from AGD and Tom Kaye. Does this mean that truely there were not enough registrations? Or just a lack of participation and organization form the so called promoter of the event MXS?
If my wild conspiracy thoeries are sound and true tis another sad milestone in the history of paintball. A game that was and is still for many a thing we do for FUN, turned into a dirty business reminiscient of College basketball and football. Has this 'Industry' fallen into the pitfalls of big money?
I love this sport when it is fun to play. what makes it not fun are the bad attitudes and people that turn this sport into what it should never be.
I will continue to be a supporter of the sport in its purer forms, by keeping at least one mag in my collection (most likely my primary). Because AGD and Tom Kaye seem to have been able to avoid the sleazy side that is becoming a festering sore in the 'industry'. To those other companies who are trying to avoid the dark side I applaud you and will attempt to support your efforts.
Minor disclaimer: I do not know the full facts behind the MXS situation, however the timing and claims on both side have the appearance of wrongdoing on someones side. Whoever the individuals or companies are that have fallen into darkness, I pity you, and to those that are truely innocent, hopefully the truth will come to light and everything shall be right in the land again. -
It is coincidence. The two issues are not related.Originally posted by PirantiHrm, rather interesting considering other recent events. Having been a victim of corporate stock manipulation {back in the late 1970's}, I can sympathize with Jammer.
Apparently, MXS transferred all of their assets to a new company, in an intentional attempt to devalue their original company, and give a minority shareholder the shaft. Yea, that is unethical business practices by Pacman & Mother, but it had nothing to do with Shatnerball.
Shatnerball simply did not have enough promotional time to work out. Another 2-4 months, and it would have been successful.Last edited by Mike Smith; 08-29-2006, 05:21 AM.
Is that a ditch behind me?

And I can't see very well...
Is this gun I borrowed any good?

Agreed... the amount of time it would have taken to establish a stake to sue would have been far longer than since Shatnerball was cancelled. If the base claims are true one has to sympathize with the minority shareholders.... if."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

I think shattnerball was cancelled because of weak support from the western paintball brethren. Same on you western AO.
The midwest/eastern AO however...well history speaks for itself

I MUST step in here for one moment and defend the Left Coast paintballers. BlackCat Paintball Productions has been doing scenario events in CA since 2002 so I KNOW first the player basis that exists and second what to expect from CA players.
On April 1-2 we held an event in Acton, CA, just outside of LA. We had about 350 players in attendance at that event and it was at a field that had NEVER held a scenario event and had no mailing list to assist in promotions. After one of our June venues fell through in mid April we talked to the field owner in Acton and agreed to have another event at his field for June 17-18, Father's Day weekend.
With less than 6 weeks marketing time before pre-registration deadline, on Father's Day weekend and with temperatures reaching in the low 100s we still had over 180 players at this event.
Was the Shatner game cancelled due to a law suit? Don't know. But to say that it was cancelled because of weak support of the west coast paintballers is an unfair statement. AGD, MXS and Jungle Island should have a VERY large player basis that they should have been able to market to.
Also, with gas prices being over $3 per gallon out there the game should NOT have been cancelled a week and the half BEFORE the pre-reg deadline. If a pre-reg deadline is given it should have been honored. Many people had to wait until the pre-reg deadline to register due to the game being announced so suddenly and without much time for people to save up money to pay for it. They simply thought they had another week and a half to save and get signed up.
We have an event that was scheduled for the same weekend in Northern CA and many of our southern CA players opted to go to the Shatner game to support it and did not register for our event and now they are unable to attend EITHER event due to Shatner being cancelled.
Bottom line...please DO NOT blame the players for the poor planning and promotions of a promoter and the a pre-registration deadline given not being honored.Scenario Director

I am glad to hear that you do well, but Shatnerball's benchmark is a bit different. Remember they had 3000 players the first event in Chicago, and I think they were were disappointed to get 900 at EMR. They may have had 400 pre-reg'd, and still called it off.

Yeah, but it's not like use East Coasters can commit to traveling all the way out to CA.
I go to every major event at EMR and I love it there but I still missed Shatnerball as I was still in school at the time.
On any given weekend, there's only ~ 100,000 paintball players scattered around the entire country. Knock of a huge number of outlaw players and divide the rest between the number of fields out there. All I'm saying is, to get anywhere near 1000 players (especialy in backwater PA that's almost 2 hours away from any sizable city) is phenomenal. Again, I love EMR, but it's a 6+ hour drive for me and I more than understand why some people are reluctant to make the trip. I think it's well worth it, but...
To be right near SD and have them cancel due to lack of registrations? I believe it. I'd believe it if they said they had 750 pre-regs and still cancelled. I doubt they had that many, but then I'm not familiar with how the crowds are on the west coast.
From my POV, this year seems to be a little slow in terms of attendance all around.
I'm not quite sure why...Before: "You're playing with WHAT?"
After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"Comment

One industry guy I spoke with said that sales were down 20% from two years ago.

Actually the first game had like 1100 total. I was there playing 'babysitting' Bill. The second was right around 800 and the third was less then 700. It may be the novelty of shooting William Shatner has worn off, I was hoping that he could parlay his fame in to bringing some other celebrity commanders in.
But that's just me.ThunderStruck Scenario Paintball Team
