American troops under the command of General Douglas MacArthur invade the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima. The Island holds signifigant strategic importance. The japanese radar stations located on the Island have warned mainland Japan of incoming American Bombers, and Iwo Jimas airfields have sustained Japanese air forces for the duration of the war.
American forces unwilling to lose any more B29 bombers to the Japanese decide that invasion is the only option. The Mission; To invade and control the island of iwo Jima and her Japanese military installations.
This will not be an easy task, the Japanese have fortifield the island with over 23,000 troops and they also realize the strategic importane of the island. In addition, the island is Japanese homeland, and the Japanses do not surrender.
