any AOers interested in going to stalingrad @ skirmish?

I am sending out an invite to run with the 13th Legionnaires @ skirmish for stalingrad.I had a blast with the AOers at top gun for the bird v bears game, and wanted to extend a welcome to come play alongside us..any deals we can scrape up in mass would be available to you(we usually do a monster paint buy to reduce the stupid high costs and it is usually under 60 a case)

if you are interested post here, pm me, or hit our team site up www.13thlegionnaires.com

hope to see more maggers out with us and go russian..lol

          Hahaha... tru tru, my bad.

I meant more along the lines of your whole team, and prior to the end of the day. Passed by your entire Team's tent setup all day, but didn't really speak up til we took that walk at the end.

(While we needed the exercise, hopefully we don't end up in a walk like that again but rather, a battle of furious vengeance.)

                    Post Game Report:

I would call it a Good Day, not great, but Good.

I personally had a good day overall. Got the chance to run with the 13th Legionaires all day; very chill bunch o guys, and gal - Thanks again! New Vest Gear and Pouch Setup was superb. My pumps were working excellently for the most part, regardless of the the brittle paint... :dodgy: Paint was less than desirable... since when did EVIL start making such brittle stuff?...

Weather held up nicely. Bit colder from what everyone was expecting, staying in the high 30's / low 40's. Did see the sun a couple times. At least it didn't Rain til the end-game departure time. Tons of people's cars getting stuck in the Snow. Thanks to those who helped push me out of a couple of embankments.

Also, I noticed the following at last year's StalinGrad , that happened this year as well. For the entire day, our side - RUSSIANS, basically dominated the field. IE, pushed Germans back more times than they did us, held more ground during the day. Regardless, the Germans managed to walk away with victory, again...

Anyways, all in all, I would call StalinGrad 07' a success.

i had a sucky time in the beginning, but after changing to my old lvl 7 minimag i had not even a barrel break with the poorly chosen paint..but most of our team didnt have as good of luck as I did..even the lvl 10 maggers

as it warmed up a bit it got better but still not great, but we laid waste to any and all german armor that was present there..lol and they were pissed about it too..overall I think we threw over 100 nades at stalingrad..and I got to meet some AOers and even did a trade lol..who would have figured..lol

                        so..
shag..great to meet you, sorry you had paint issues..
pyschoballer..great to run with ya and you are welcome anytime
sumthinwicked..nice to finally meet you and great trade it shot wonderfully!!!

This thread was for Stalingrad at Skirmish, which already happened - (march 10th, 2007)...

I'm sure a new thread will arise for other Skirmish events, but not from me anymore

NJ Nam thread will be up soon.

                              Baller,

Yeah man, I had the exact same experience, started off kinda wierd and disorganized but once things got going it was a lot of fun. My RT was a freaking blender with that brittle paint. I think it was b/c it was stored cold. As the day went on it didn't break so much. Still, when I switched over to my classic everything was fine.

The 13th OWNED the German armor. Great job guys. I was running the only Russian tank with Wally (Mr. Tyrell of Tyrell fame). We ran it up their gut for the first 2 hours of the game. After that we got pressed into scenario role-play service. It was fun at first, but then Mark (German CO) issued "shoot on sight" orders for the role-players and that was about the end of role-play for us. We did get some good prop points before that, but I guess Mark wanted to secure a win by cutting off any opportunity for role-players to make up the difference in points. We protested to the director and got Mark to recind the order, but by then it was 5:00 and it started raining and got slushy.

I agree that the Russians basically dominated the field. But as we all know, it's accomplishing missions that wins scenario games, not dominating the field. The Germans were able to do this so they deserved the win. It wasn't a complete blow out and considering Mark's a VERY experienced General and Mario (XO) / Silence (CO) were first timers they did an excellent job.

All-in-all I like the format that Skirmish used. With a little tweaking I think it could set a standard for scenario play. They handed out a sheet that had Times, Objectives, and what the point values were. This is good b/c it lets everybody know exactly what they have to do at what times. It also takes away any sense that the judging and awarding of points is arbitrary. In almost every scenario game I've been to there's usually the sense at the end of the game that the scoring is biased towards one side or the other. With this system, there's no doubt as to how it's scored. I LIKE it. BUT (yeah, there's always a "BUT"), you can abuse this system. A General can rush to dominate the point spread at the beginning. After that they can basically stop playing b/c they can easily calculate how many points are left to be had and lock in victory before the game even ends. That sucks. Which is why the role-play is important. Role-play in this game was worth over a third (IIRC) of the points available. Role-play is essentially a wild card and, if the General isn't careful, can lose the game for him even though he/she has dominated the field of battle. Which, I'm sure is why Mark wanted us shot.

I did have a good time overall, good not great, and I'm really glad I got a parking spot on solid ground. It must have sucked for all the poor guys that got stuck in the slush when the rain started.

Go 13th! and I'll catch you guys in "the Nam"!

                              Al... out...
