    Lets talk about paint . . .

just trying to get a baseline

The field that I play at sells cases of 'Stinger' for $30. It's a great price but the shells are usually two-tone grey or green that's the same hue as the ground and the fill is thick and dark. The shells are also quite sturdy.

The 3 coresponding draw-backs are: 1) I can't see them fly 'cause they blend in w/ the ground. 2) It's not always obvious when they break. 3) Unless you hit a gun or mask there's a good chance they won't break.

I live near a "Pev's Paintball" shop that has Draxxuss "Midnight, Blaze, and Inferno" as well as X-Ball "Bronze, Silver and Gold."

I remember when a case was 2500 and you were lucky if it was less than $100.

I have an old AM with a new Lvl10 and I really like my old Armson int rifled barrell (I do have 3 others). I'm looking for any info and info on what paint y'all find works well with a similar set up.

    Thanks for looking,
    Gabe

Paint to gun isn't a real problem all paint seems to work equally well w/ different guns....(and rifled barrels don't seem to have any effect on pb gun's either)
that being said, you should look for a more brittle paint because of the lvl x breaks aren't a big problem and obviously a brighter color both shell and fill... this will cover 2 of your problems off the back...

now taking all of these into consideration it won't help unless your price range is right (you get what you pay for) So the next couple times you go instead of purchasing a case of paint purchase a couple bags and sample each out you'll find one that falls into the category of what your looking for.

all the xball works great with my mag, and most of the guys I play with (bushball) swear by xball bronze. I have tried all three xball and they all seem to work fairly equally so usually I stick with the bronze as well, nice and cheap.

Didn't like Draxxus at all only have tried the midnight though

I also remeber when a case of paintballs used to be worth around $250 so now pretty much anything seems cheap. mind you... you didn't have the BPS then that you have now.

I have always run Marbs unless they werent offered. Paintballs are the most important part of the equation IMO. Though Im not a "spray-n-pray" player either

I've used X-ball bronze, Draxxus midnight, blaze, rec-sport and even the worst: Rainbow. Compared to x-ball bronze i would say rec sport is equal in quality. both are ok for rec ball, but if you have the choice i would go for blaze. I've shot alot of that and its good paint for a ok price. Midnight is what you don't want, those shells are much thicker for guns that are rough on paint, and bounce alot more. Also if you have dimples in the paint it's very hard to get them out. Blaze just requires a quick rolling of the bag and laying it flat surface for a day.

I always shoot x-ball bronze through my electro's

And I always shoot Blaze through my mag

Tourney paint does not do well with mags

I've used Zapp Chronic trough my xmag at the biggame in mahlwinkel... The choice was either that, or Severe Cyclones.. Both are very good quality paint, and with those chronics i didnt have any chops (and i shot over 2 cases that weekend) Was big sized paint tho... first time ever that i've used the .693 back of my pepperstick.

I really like Nelson Hemorrhage, but that wasn't listed. If your field allows outside paint, take the color you like and shoot a paint that has some shell integrity. I have found that my 'Mags don't like old, dry, OOPS.....I mean Tournament paint.....

Your first two problems are easily solved by buying another color of paint. The third makes it sound like you want more brittle paint. If you do that, you should expect a lot of barrel breaks since rifled barrels are less gentle on paint. Just take some different brands and see how many drops from eye-level on to concrete it takes to break the ball on average.

Anyway, just try some kinds and see what works best. Don't take anyone's opinion about paint as fact. A lot of what makes paint good is how it's kept. Temperature, humidity, shipping, age, whether or not they flip cases regularly, and tons of other factors can easily turn good paint into bad paint. XBall Bronze is my favorite rec paint, but I've shot great cases of it and I've shot lousy ones.

I agree with this too. I have had paint that shot great one time and I couldn't stand the next, just a difference in where I bought it. A good rule of thumb is never buy from mass merchants (Walmart, Fred Meyer, Target, etc.). Stick with your pball shop, they will tend to make sure that your paint is well taken care of so that you will come back to buy more.

You speak the truth, but Walmart paint is not that bad. Last year I played at a field that was near and had ties to Ft. Braggs rec department(MVR). To make a long story short its their land(Ft. Bragg) so the add on to the stores paint prices to make money aswell. Stinger or what ever that paint is with the clear fill that you cant see when your hit was selling for 60 a case. I just went to walmart and bought about 3500 round for the same price and they shoot just find. Some will say that I did not support the local store, but the store told me to go to walmart instead. So I did and will continue to do in the future when ever I want to go tirgger happy at that field, but when I did play 1000 round for a rec day worked for me.
