    Body altering questions

    Ok I just built a mag from a box of parts. After I mixed and matched and swapped parts. i finally got it shooting. It still chuffs on occasion though, but thats not the problem at hand. What i was wondering was. What is the best method for cutting down the feed tube on a right feed body, and how far. Also is there preffered method for stripping the standard gray finish of the body to polish it or should i just forget that idea.

    I wold cut it down so an elbow would be touching the body. I think you just dremel it. And use the dremel to polish it too?

      I have heard you want to cut it down so it is covering no more than a 1/3 of the hole.

        As far as polishing it, I used Scotch Brite (green pads usually used for cleaning). it turned out pretty nice. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...Automag003.jpg There's a pic. If you look closely, you can still see scratches from the Scotch Brite, but if you have a dremmel, polishing wheel and compound, I would think you could buff them out. Anyone else done this?

          Ive used a pipe cutter and that worked well.
          It leaves a heavy burr on the inside that needs to be filed,
          but the cut is clean looking otherwise.

            A pipe cutter makes the straightest cut. Deburr the cut after you finish. The amount of neck to leave is your preference. Try to allow the balls to sit so that there is pressure on the stack by the balls above, even with a gravity fed hopper.

            Removing the gray finish is as easy as sanding it smooth and polishing it. Start with a 250 grit paper. Then go to 400 grit, 1000 grit, 1500 grit and if you have it, 3000 grit. The next step is to polish it using a good chrome or metal polish. If done right, your body will shine like a mirror.
            Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
