Can one of you electronic whizzes tell me how to use an RS 555 timer?

Please excuse me if my terms aren't correct. I haven't messed around with circuit diagrams since high school (and that was a LONG time ago ).

If you could tell me how to use the Radio Shack 555 Timer that would be great. BTW, I am looking for something that when I short across two pins (or apply a voltage) I will get either a closed circuit or voltage across two other pins for a static time frame (ie for a 100 ms).

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Yes, this has to do with paintball.

Search Amazon for the "555 cookbook" or it might be "555 clock timer cookbook" It has about 1000 ways to hook up the 555 ic. Radio Shack used to have a nice info book with them in it too.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Do you know if it will do what I am looking for?

This is what you are looking for. Look in the monostable section of the data sheet I attached. It should be pretty easy, Get back with me if you have any problems, Good luck

Thanks for the data sheet. It's been a long time since I looked at this kind of stuff. Wish me luck.

If it is easy enough for you, maybe you could help me out. Could you tell (show) me how to get the following results from the 555 timer ic?

When a switch is turned on I want a single timed pulse (for example say 100ms) from the output of the 555 ic. If necessary (or it's a lot easier) the pulse could stay on for the entire time the switch is on. The pulse must be on for at least a static time (for example 100ms) even if the switch is turned of before the time expires.

Note: the circuit could work with the switch being turned off instead of on.

If this is too complicated to explain here I'll just muddle through it.

            Thanks in advance.

No need to be sorry. Thanks for taking the time to give me ALL the details. That is what I wanted to know. Again, thanks a lot.
