    L10 Bumper

hi, thought i'd ask anyways as i begin searching for info...

i have a relatively new tac-one, and have only shot about 1-1/2 to 2 cases of paint thru it.

i just noticed that my L10 bumper (part #10 here seems to be wearing out already (getting all soft & coming apart at the center, where it goes around the power tube.

-question 1) is this normal so "soon"?

-question 2) in a pinch, can the marker be used without it? (while waiting for replacement)

    thanks!

I've read feedback from others that the bumpers for the XValve are softer for the higher rate of fire from the valve. But that makes it wear out faster. I think that you can use the bumper from the classic valve (blue) without issues, they tend to be harder and last longer. But if there is someone else that has first hand experience with the blue bumper, please chime in. I would not use the valve without the bumper, it will most likely damage the valve.

I use a blue bumper in mine and it seems to work fine.

Don't use the valve without the bumper.

The soft retro valve bumper stretches outward when the back of thel evel 10 bolt hits it. The inner ridge of the bumper is held in the tiny groove at the base of the powertube. The continuous stretching eventually tears the bumper apart. The blue bumper doesn't stretch the same as the clear retro bumper and therefore lasts longer. The older level 7 bolts had a wider base so this did not occur.

You can help the longevity of the clear bumber by glueing it to the front face of the valve. This helps to keep it from stretching and tearing by holding it stable in one place. If the bumper can't push outward, it can't tear away from the inner ring of bumper material held at the base of the powertube. It works.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

McMaster-Carr sells sheets of silicone (~same thickness) with adhesive backing... i still have some left over from a project... they're not quite as soft as the clear bumpers, and i'll compare to the blue bumpers once i get receive them.

any thoughts on cutting out some of that & using as replacement instead of gluing them onto the valve, as some others have recommended here?

The adhesive is the same as glue. Just use a similar glue type of product to stick the proper bumpers on. Using the recommended bumper, you at least know the thickness is correct.
